I have a friend who is in some trouble with money.
He is in Canada, and has filed for EI.
This is where he is having the trouble.
If anyone has any knowledge in this area, could you please pm me? Thank you. |

What is EI? If he's asking you for money, just remember that it may cost you your friendship with the person unless you just want to give it to him/her as a gift and forget about it. I stay away from lending money to friends. |

Just want to ditto not lending money. If you want to give it, cool. I had two friends part ways because of a loan between them. |

EI is employment insurance. It used to be called "Unemployment Insurance" which makes more sense as it's paid to people who have lost their jobs.
Dalguy is he having a problem applying, or qualifying? You can apply online now - don't even have to leave your house

I don't lend money to anyone. Don't worry! LOL!
The only reason I'm concerned is the rent cheques come out of my account and he kinda/sorta owes me rent. I've already covered it of course. I don't want to bounce a cheque.
I read online how EI works and it isn't fun at all.
He didn't file properly and it left him with a huge difference in what he was paid. This is taking some time to get fixed and in the meantime he owes me money. I don't expect to ever see it, and I'm not renewing the lease with this person.
Anya, It definitely makes more sense. Employment Insurance just makes it sound less dead-beat. I love euphemisms. (Domestic Engineer is one of my favorites.)
People always ask to borrow money and I just say no. If they were that good with money in the first place they wouldn't need to borrow mine. (Save for emergencies. I'm not going to say no if you need gas money to visit your dying uncle.) |
