Any help would be much appreciated. I've been using emu for a few months and it has done wonders for my skin. However recently, I've been noticing that my liquid foundation has been going on REALLY patchy and cakey. Not only that, for some reason my skin looks flakey beneath the foundation, but at the same time it's very shiny/oily?
I know that's a sign of dehydration but I've tried everything and I don't know what else I can do.
Any suggestions? I'm pretty worried cos I have something on in 2 weeks and would like to solve this before then. I might have to use something else besides emu in the day, but at the same time I'm petrified that I'll react to it since I'm very sensitive.
BTW, I can't use HA, am using EpidermxII daily to get rid of flakes. Would Decleor Ylang Ylang help me? Does anyone else have problems with oils and foundation?

Hi FaithTruth! I had something very similar happen to me at the beginning of winter when we had our first cold snap, and it was really annoying! It sounds to me like it is indeed dehydration, but treating it can be tricky since your skin is sensitive. When I had my problem, I used Zenbiotic's Moisture Enrich and it cleared it up in just a day or so. You have to be sure to use it on a damp face, but when you do it works wonders! It's a very simple formula and very good for sensitive skin too. I would advise you to stay away from the Ylang Ylang at least for now--- if you really are experiencing dehydration problems that would only make things worse, IMO. HTH--- please keep us updated!

The thing is, I can't really figure out why my skin is dehydrated. The weather's very warm and humid. I drink tons of water. I use emu, which is supposed to help. I exfoliate daily. Why do you think my skin is dehydrated? Will check out the Zenbiotic stuff. Hmm drink about 2 cups of coffee a day, but have been doing that for a LONG TIME so I doubt that would be it.

Generally non-mineral makeup does not go on well, or stay on, over oils.

hi faithtruth,

can i ask why your skin is flaky? are you using any other active that might make it flaky? Are you overexfoliating, perhaps? I don't think the emu would dry you out on its own, but it depends on what kind of emu oil you have. I once had one that I realized after the fact was more vitamin e than emu--that make my skin pretty messy where I was trying to hydrate it.

After thinking about it, I think I might have been over exfoliating since I added the epidermxII. So I'm gonna back off on the chemical exfoliation and stick to the Epidermx. Also I agree about non-mineral makeup not working with oils, so now I need to find a day moisturizer that'll work, and I need to find it FAST argh.

also, even with EpidermyxII, you might want to lay off daily use or just be really gentle. i've found that my skin is happier when i use it a little less (though i do use a balm cleanser with a muslin cloth every night as well). and, personally, i don't find emu all that cosmetically elegant (although many do). i apply a really light layer of Clarin Blue Orchid Oil (for dehydrated skin) or Weleda Rose Oil capsules during the day.

actually, that could be another problem if you wat to keep using emu during the day. application. mist your face and only put a drop or two of the emu in your palms. skim your face with it and lightly press your palms into the dryer areas. save the heavy application of emu for the evenings. i'd also use a light moisturiser *after* the oil if you can find one that works for you. HTH

Thanks for the tips, those two oils are the ones I've been eyeing actually - are they lighter than emu?

most definitely! a warning, though, the Clarins has a *very* strong scent of Patchouly -- which is a love it or hate it kind of thing. luckily i do Very Happy love it, i mean.

I just received my sample of the Silkia Camellia oil and it seems very much more cosmetically elegant than emu which is much thicker. Just hope it doesn't break me out like it did to others.

again, i think it might have to do with application -- just skim it on your face. don't slather it on or rub. i'm *very* acne prone and i have been able to use Camellia oil (though i have one from Epidermx....). use it lightly and say a little prayer -- good luck!

faithtruth

as i think someone mentioned above, you may be over exfoliating.

have you ever tried clear emu oil?
i've used this during the day under makeup (i use mmu, not liquid foundation, tho)
and have found it and squalane (olives) much better cosmetically.

if you've had no issues with emu oil, give the clear a try.
squalane is usally not suggested to acne prone individuals -
but I think it's worth it to try a sample size to see how your skin reacts.

also - watch your application.
a few drops rubbed over your palms and patted in,
or a few drops of the oil mixed with a little water and patted on, may help.
