Hi there,
I do not think there is a limit age to actually enjoy the benefits of dry brushing....
Maybe someone your age or similar can share tips with you.
If it was me I would give it a try. Just keep in mind to be gentle on the beginning and build up observing how does your skin respond. As it gets used should be showing good results in appearance and feeling.
I know other ladies had good results through this technique and massage too.
Take a look at the forum, I am sure you can find great pals around.
When I brush my body I do it entirely and I would say I spend a bit more time than you do.
I do it from toes to practically head.
Good luck! |

Hi Mars
Age is not a factor when it comes to dry brushing, maybe you want to experiment with doing strokes and/or circles on problem areas. Also play with the amount of pressure your using, try doing heavy one day and lightly the next. Both will produce different results. Maybe start with just your arms and aim to spend about 5 minutes on each one roughly for about 2 weeks or so, this should give you some results and then this will help motivate you to try doing it to the rest of your body. Its not that you need to spend 5 minutes, but I'm suggesting this so you can really ensure your doing your face well.

Hi, Guys, At 57, am I too old to dry brush my face? My skin has thinned terribly from lack of estrogen. I've dry brushed my thighs (cellulite) and my wobbly upper arms. No positive results, but I wonder if I'm doing it long enough per session. I only do it for 90 seconds or so per area. Thanks! |

Hi Mars,
You are NOT old ~ nor too old to achieve skin tightening and lifting results with dry brushing. What you do need to do is not count the seconds per area. Rather, perform 30-40 strokes or scrubs per area, as Carole Maggio likes to call them. As for the face, she happens to sell two mitts. The one I use is the regular facial beauty mitt. She now has another one made out of bamboo that is supposed to be more intense on the skin. I didn't use it because I tend to be too rough on skin and don't want to rub the thin skin off my face! Yikes! I have to say I myself, was NOT a believer before I started doing MORE strokes than just 15 per area. Once I bumped it up to between 30-40 per area, as Carole suggested, the change was amazing and impressive. The face requires a different approach, you use circular movements instead, moving around the face. Still, performing about 30-40 circular movements per area. In conjunction with Facercise and No Lipo, Lipo on my body, I have created more youthful skin and I am in peri-menoapuse so I certainly have emphathy for you! Believe me, the dry brushing technique serves a dual purpose, it is indeed good for detoxification as well, firming & lifting the skin of the Face & Body. Take care, Aprile |

Hi, Guys, Thank you so much for your comments. In other posts I've mentioned I'm one who tends to overdo. I read somewhere that too much abrading of the (facial) skin will eventually be harmful. The same is said about glycolics and other acids. Not sure if that applies for all ages, or just to those of us who are post menopausal. I've already dry brushed my face 3 times and it does make my skin feel soft. I just don't want to do more harm than good.
I very well may get into the 302 Products line for a number of issues. Can you dry brush AND use those products? Thank you again. You guys ROCK! |

Mars,
I really don't know much about the 302 products, but I did see some b/a photos of a woman on the 302 thread whose results were awesome! To my eye, though she did have thicker skin. The facial beauty mitt that Carole Maggio sells feels really more like a rough wash cloth on the skin. The new one she's selling is a bamboo mitt. I don't know if I should even try that one, as I'm right with ya overdoing things. Even still, I have not done any damage to my face using the facial beauty mitt! In fact, as mentioned by another poster, I truly believe using the facial beauty mitt has indeed exfoliated, strengthened, toned, lifted and made my facial skin appear thicker ~ All good stuff! When I first saw the mitt I thought it wouldn't do that much at all, but it's been a Godsend for me! As for the 302 products, I would think that using the mitt in conjunction would help your skin better receive those products. I say this because the mitt also exfoliates the dead cells. By the way, Carole Maggio also sells great skincare on her site. Best wishes, Aprile |

Hullo,
I've just started facial dry brushing with a natural bristle baby's brush I got from the Body Shop. (I couldn't help myself - I'm a lemming.) As it's so soft, I've been using it on my eyes in a sort of stroke/massage fashion. Anyhoo, I've since developed very crepey upper eyelids and have more wrinkles under my eyes. All this after only four days! Well done, me . Clearly I need to either a) back off, or b) stop altogether. What I'd love to know, is if anyone else has experienced this and continued regardless, and if so are they still brushing and what are the results.
Thanks so much. (Also, I'm 44, so I guess, peri-menopausal... man, I need to look that up ) |

I am having this problem as well. My whole face is dry and my under eye area looks horrible. I am hoping it is just a phase and works itself out soon. Dry brushing has done wonders for my body. |

You could always apply a moisturiser after brushing, I think someone said it improves product penetration? |

Hi TheresaMary! Which brush do you use? Sorry if you stated which brush you used. I went through this thread quick!
I know people mentioned this brush http://www.yerba.com/storefront/item.asp?id=73
but can you use that big of brush on your face? They had it at Whole Foods but I thought it was kind of big for the face. Maybe you can use it for the face.. |

I bought a special brush for my face, but no I wouldn't recommend you use the big body brush, as thats too challenging for most people. Its a small nail brush I use made of natural fibres.

I have been using Carole Maggio's facial mitts and have been more pleased with these than my facial brush, Nanci's cloth, or clarisonic. I have been using them for over six weeks and noticed thickening of the skin, firmness, and glow. I am really kinda shocked because I didn't think the mitts would be this effective. |

Toby, you are one person on EDS whose recommendations always work for me. I haven't seen anything happening with the brush I bought a while back; I'm going to have to order the mitts. (Probably one of my less expensive EDS-induced splurges!) |

Thats interesting, as I'm the opposite. I tried both her mits, and it was tough figuring out which side you needed to use, and saw little if any difference. Sure skin felt smoother, but not the same as when I dry brush - so just goes to show you - doesn't work for all.
Toby how you manage to do all you do for your face and still have a life I'll never know (but would love to be you for a few days!!!!)

I have grown children that are married which really frees up time but I do work full time and then some.....but I am a woman on a mission and so far the results are very worth it.I see skincare as a neat project and love experimenting. I understand with the skin brush techniques that we are all different in what works best. Most people rave about Nanci's cloth and I am probably the only one that didn't care for it. I did like the face brushing but never got the results that I have with Carole's mitts. I have found with the skincare protocols I use I find a way to fit them into my schedule like doing somethings will soaking in the tub..I leave for work before 7:00am because of a long commute and I am usually coming home by 5 or 6 so there has to be a plan and organization to my madness But I will say at 54 I look way better than I did before I started this journey at 52...... so that is plenty of motivation. Where there is a will there is a way |

I agree with Toby about the mitts from CM. I love the bamboo mitt - I use this once a day or once every other day. The other dry mitt I use once a day. 30 circles per area. If I dermaroll I don't dry brush the same night. |

Tonia you are probably on to something. I have noticed that people with similar skin type have almost more in common than the age issue. |

Yes, I, too, have a similar experience as Toby. I like Nancy's microfiber cloths, but I love Carole Maggio's mitts much better. They are my favorite products for exfoliation, hands down.
The two reasons that I like Carole Maggio's mitt better than the microfiber cloth are
(1) the exfoliation feels cleaner and more complete, in that there are no pieces of partly hanging dead skin still on my face (whereas the microfiber cloths do leave some of these); and
(2) I find that the microfiber cloth wipes up much more of the natural oils off my face, so my face feels drier after using the microfiber cloth (for reference, I have balanced skin, not too dry or oily). In other words, once it reveals the new skin cells, the microfiber cloth then seems to wipe off the natural oils from their surface. But I prefer retaining more of the natural oils on my face, so I prefer the mitt.
I hope this helps! |

Oh cm thanks so much for this review because I couldn't figure out why I wasn't as happy with the microfiber cloth but you have nailed it! I have very normal skin as well and the only thing I have ever used that seemed to leave my skin dry was the microfiber cloth and never understood why. Oh this makes sense....thanks so much! |
