I'm not sure about this one, but is it possible to get your eyesight to become better? My prescription is not that bad at - 2, but am curious whether there are ways to better your eye sight in any ways. Anybody know?

I heard if you are near-sighted when you're young, you may become 20/20 in your 40s or 50s b/c people's eyesight becomes long or far-sighted as they get older, so from near it becomes normal instead of far. Also I read that you could exercise your eyeballs. How? I don't know exactly. Maybe just roll your eyeballs in different directions every so often. Also look at something green is very soothing for your eyes. And don't forget the eye supplements. These should help with either maintaining your vision or make it possibly better.

There is a method of exercises, I think called Bates. I did it as a kid, and my eyesight improved. Unfortunately I stopped. You have to continue to do them to keep the improvement.

I definitely have seen a real life case of drastic improvement in eyesight. My friend had something like -10 during most of her high school years, I remember trying on her glasses and almost being knocked out because they were so strong. Now after about 5 years and a more "relax" attitude towards studying and computer use, her eye sight is only around -3, I tried on her glasses again and there was a huge decrease in the strength of her lenses.

I think the most important way to improve short sightedness is by avoiding focusing up close and training the eyes to refocus at distance shapes. Looking at natural greenery is also very beneficial. When I went on a 3 month holiday and didn't go near a computer or books, my eyesight was much better when I returned but soon the repetitive habits of straining my eyes and going straight to bed has actually worsened my short sightedness and astigmatism.

As for nutrition, a diet high in lutein and plant carotenoids is good for preventing macular degeneration. But most diets do not get anywhere near enough the recommended 6-10mg.

My eyesight did improve for a few years in my 30's and early 40's...of course I'm off to the eye doc today cause I can no longer read food or cosmetic labels.

The same thing happened to me. I wish I never stopped...I've been wearing glasses since my early 20's.

I think so too. There are exercises for eyes that can help improving eye sight. One of my friend had good results for a couple of years. But it's hard to keep doing those for years to get good results. I can never do that. So I am just hoping mine will get better as I get older Very Happy

I've heard about eye exercises, but didn't know the name Bates associated with them. Thanks for starting this thread. I am going to check these out, especially for DS. Unfortunately, poor eyesight runs in my family.
