Hi, I think I may have pretty tough skin...I did my first TCA 16% peel last month from Platinum Skin Care. I did one layer and didn't peel ONE BIT. (I have done a few Jessners peels in the past if it matters.)

I just did my 2nd TCA 16% peel Sunday night and only have had some flaking as of today, Thursday.

I worry about doing 3 layers though next time...I wonder if it will be ok given my minimal peeling so far? (I was also thinking of spot treating my scars with TCA 20% in the future but maybe I need 50% for that? Want to be careful though...) Thanks for any input.

I did four 12.5% peels and had great results. I put on 2-3 layers until I frost. That's when you get the best peel. I have noticed the first time I did it that it didn't peel well where I didn't frost.

A few weeks ago I bought 20% TCA and did a large test spot on the side of my face and had really good results.

Frosting is very important.

And please - don't get anywhere NEAR 50%!!!! I believe most doctors do a 35% and consider it a medium-deep peel. If you do it at home, I suggest you don't go beyond 20-25%.

Some of us must have tough skin! Acnestatin-ruined, was this your first TCA peel with the 16%? They say to start with 8%, but I also started higher with the 12.5% just recently and only had minor flaking. This was a bit disappointing seeing as how I had the entire week off and my husband was out of town too! I was hoping to really peel. There was almost no sting, but I'm not complaining about that. I bought mine from MUAC, and they were very helpful. She said this first time primed my skin and to do two layers in a couple of weeks.

lbianca, are you intending to do your entire face with the 20%? If so, please let us know how it goes.

Are you prepping with glycolic treatments? (Not right before you do the peel of course, just for a week or so prior to the peel) I think that is supposed to help with the efficiency of the TCA peel.

This is from pefectpeelsolutions.com
"One or two weeks prior to treatment you will use a mild alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) cleanser to the area of skin that will be treated. This will condition the skin and prepare it for a more affective peel and overall enhance the outcome of the chemical peel solution. Alpha-hydroxy Acids consist of the functional group known as a carboxylic acid. These compounds are used quite frequently in the non-surgical cosmetic industry under more common names such as glycolic acid (hydroxyacetic acid), lactic acid (hydroxypropanoic acid), and citric acid (tricarboxylic acid). They may be purchased from any local shopping centers in the cosmetic section under relatively low concentrations ranging from 2%-10%. Glycolic acid is by far the most popular and effective of the alpha hydroxy acids. You can locate the type of AHA suitable for you by looking at the back of the cleanser in the ingredients part of the product."

Pachouli, sorry for not replying earlier. I lost track of this thread because they "drop" so fast.

Yes, I intend to do a 20% whole face eventually. In a month or so I want to try the 15% first. I'm trying to do it all safely and slowly.

Hi--I also lost track of this thread I started. Yes, the first time I ever used TCA was with the 16% peel. I have done several Jessners in the past.

As for prepping beforehand, I was told the Retin A Micro I use is good to prepare your skin for the peel--so I just used that. Stopped it 24 hrs before the peel and 48 hrs after. I got the TCA from Platinum skincare and they recommended that.

I am due for another peel next week and I think I may do 2 layers again with 3 layers to spot treat my most visible scars--there are about 5 little areas. As my wedding approaches I am starting to freak a bit about my skin.
