I've been using tea tree oil for the past few days. I noticed that everytime I apply it to my moisturizer and put it on, my pores begin to clog. They are really small, not acne, but you can see the clogged pores. It happens within an hour of washing, and that is the only thing I added into it.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's a really bad feeling.

It's a shame because it felt so good. I have oily skin as it is, but the odd part is tea tree oil isn't supposed to clog pores is it? I guess maybe there is an exception?

I would love all the help I can get Smile Thanks!

I have used tea tree oil as a spot treatment in the past but i have never added it to my moisturizer so I can't attest to clogged pores. Tea tree oil worked ok as a spot treatment and I think it helped with the spots that I had. I stopped using it because my face became too sensitive and the tea tree oil burned my skin. Plus, the smell was bothering me.

You might want to try diluted tea tree oil as a spot treatment first. If you find that your spots are getting worse, then you know it's the tea tree oil causing clogged pores.

It's possible that you're either adding too much, or that you're having a reaction to it - not getting clogged pores.

I found tea tree oil too heavy for anything other than spot treatment. It either dries out my skin or causes more breakouts otherwise! Perhaps you shouldn't put it over your whole face but only necessary areas?

I agree -- tea tree oil is not a carrier oil -- it is an essential oil. Which means it is very potent and shouldn't be used "neat." Any more than a drop would be excessive added to your moisturizer every night.

I do use it neat sometimes, applied after extractions. It keeps infection away. But otherwise, I use it only added (a couple of drops) to my DIY 1 oz bottles of nighttime serum.

Thank you all for your replies!

I added 1 drop to my daily moisturizer. Which is about a 5% dilution so to speak.

It may have been something else, but the second I stop using it, it clears. But then whenever I use it again, within a few hours I start to feel and see clogged pores in my skin. And such is the cycle. It may just be coincidence, but perhaps it may also be allergic reactions? But it's very strange, I can't put my finger on it.

I know that it technically shouldn't be something which can do something like that, and have researched up on it well, that is why this correlation intruiges me enough to question.

Thank you all for your help by the way Smile!

Is the tea tree oil suitable for combination skin? My nose has the pore problem.
