I need big time help with my skin. I don't exfoliate my skin because i have very sensitive oily skin with minor breakout. I have tried so many scrubs from oily acne to sensitive types but have brokeout and get redness. Should i go for serums that will have AHA or AHA cream or not exfoliate at all. Please Help!!!!

could be that you are scrubbing too hard when you use scrubs, so maybe a mild AHA/BHA wash is the way to go. You might also try enzyme exfoliaters. I use a pineapple & papaya one by jason's naturals which is very gentle, but there are many others out there. You could also try using a balm type cleanser such as Liz Earle polish or Eve Lom; these are thick aromatic oil based cleansers that are massaged into the face and then removed with a wet muslin cloth. Eve Lom, says that this is all the exfoliation a skin needs, and as facialist to the stars, I spose she should know!
Any moment now someone will give you more detailed advice Smile
Hope that helps,
Liz

I think you should still exfoliate - you just need to find a product that is right for you. Please see reply to your other AHA related topic Wink

Yes definitely exfoliate. You may want to try a more gentle exfoliater like Dr Hauschka's Cream Cleanser or Primavera's Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser. They are both great for sensitive skin and leave you with amazing results.

i think i am also one of those people whose skin doesnt respond too well with exfoliation, cause most of the time, my skin always end up a mess after i exfoliate, and it makes my skin dry.

Confused yikes.. i have the same problem but i dont have oily skin.. as for the redness, find the most product with fine granduals. i use estee lauders (SO POLISHED) then i put on( redness relief by eucerin). that really combats the redness and irritations.they have a day and night cream. do it once a week to start. that might be all you can handle. rub in on gently and add warm water. NOT HOT.never use hot water on your face. it will really flare up. and some times i use a dime size ( so polished) with a nickle size of purity cleanser by PHILOSIPHY. PHILOSIPHY is great for sensitive skin..most of there products work well on my sensitive skin. now i dont get many red flare ups..hope this helps.

I have VERY sensitive skin and the only thing that has worked for me lately is something that the lovely gals on this board are oftentimes raving about and turned me on to: Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant.

I've had raw skin for weeks with many of my previous attempts at even light exfoliation, but the Daily Microfoliant has worked great. I'd suggest that, if you could get a sample.

Hope that helps! Very Happy

I hear you!

I do not do well with most scrubs either. I had recently tried one on my neck that was made for sensitive skin and it turned my skin red, red, red! ugh!

That is one of the reasons why I love Ice Elements 2 minute miracle exfoliating gel so much. It has got to be the gentlest exfoliation product that I have ever gotten my hands on, and it gives me the results that I can immediately see and feel.

I would highly recommend that you call for a sample of this product to see if it will do for you what it does for me... exfoliate and hydrate gently and effectively.

Thanks all for your reply.
I didn't exfoliate at all b/c I would get breakout/redness even from dermalogica daily microfoliante. Then I started using JB Green apple peel almost 7months ago and I don't have any reactions to that. I also recently started using Clarins one step gentle exfoliater which to my surprise works great for my sensitive skin. The only part I hate is that it has fragrance in it eventhough it smells good. I have not had redness or breakouts using these two products.

Great!

I am sooo glad that you found something that would work for you.

Sometimes it is really difficult to find what is right for our skin and it is always wonderful to hear when someone hits the nail on the head.

Take care.

My facialist says that *if* your skin produces sebum you shouldnt use physical exfoliation as it will cause your skin to produce more. Don't know how much is in that. She does think skin needs regular exfoliation and recommends chemical exfoliation e.g. has glycolic or an eve lom type cleanser routine. Hope that helps but the more I read here hte more it seems we all have such different needs and products.

This is what I have heard too and it has worked for me to stay away from the physical exfoliators. I know I'll be the third person to mention it, but the Eve Lom cleanser could be a great product for you.
