I posted in the product review section the other day. I want to share my experience to everyone going through the same ordeal with their furkids.
Maggie, my 2 year old Scottie, has been licking her paws for well over a year. I have tried everything in my power to help Maggie. She has been on a special diet, taking supplements. Maggie and Winnie are like children to me so I spare no expense. Her Vet wanted Maggie to be on Steroids but I am so against that treatment. Where Maggies paws are her only issue I do my best to keep her comfortable with soaks and med. powder.
A few weeks ago I place an order with EDS and received Gehwols med Salve for cracked skin FREE with purchase. Maggie had been going to town on her paws. After my usual routine of soaking her feet in Epsom's Salts I decided to try the Gehwol Salve on her paws. Being afraid Maggie would lick her paws and ingest the Gehwol I kept her in the TV room with me.
After applying the Gehwol Maggie did not lick her paws. The next morning the red/raw condition of her paws was markedly improved. It has been three day applying the Gehwol twice a day. Not once has Maggie licked her paws and the irritation is all but gone.
Right now EDS is having Gehwol free with purchase for members. If your dog is suffering like Maggie has please try this. I only used a very tiny amount on her pads and between her toes. I see nothing about this cream that would hurt your dog if he did lick it. However, to be on the safe side I would suggest an Elizabeth Collar until the paws are healed (I am not doing the collar with Maggie and she is fine).
I just purchased 2 full size tubes from EDS.  |

Oooo! My dog has been doing this for years now and it just so happens that I got a tube of this from EDS just last week. I'll have to try this - thank you so much for the tip!  |

| great info...my last dog use to do that, not to the point of irriation as yours tho, I'd put lanoline on her paws and all was good! Having a new puppy I am happy with any info, just incase! |

My black Scottie, Winnie also licks his paws. On Winnie I don't notice half the irritation I do on Maggie. Maggie is a Wheaten (White) Scottie so her skin is actually very pink. Her white fur around her paws is dark brown from licking (saliva).
I am also going to treat Winnie with the Gehwol as he sleeps with us and hearing him lick his paws drives us nuts. |

awww we do love them dont we!! The lanoline I used is just pure lanoline I'd get at whole foods, it helps their paws not dry out and get rough. I've never had to cure your issues, but maybe since I've done it from puppiness...they never get it. But I am def writing that product down in case the newest princess in my life gets issues... |
