If you watched the Golden Globes, can you suggest what type of blush Helen Mirren was wearing? I thought her makeup looked fantastic. She had quite a bit of shine on her face but it wasn't from highlighters. She had a rather bronzey foundation but her blush looked sheer but quite pinkish-red...looked like she'd been in the sun all day. Ever since this show, I've been searching for a "greasy" sheer blush that will leave a sheen - without the glitter sparkles - and can't find one. TIA!
BTW, her makeup for the Oscars was the opposite: matte & muted which I already know how to do.

Is this what you meant?

Helen Mirren looked really good during the Oscars. I can't wear dark blush because it ages me but she pulled it off really well. I would suggest Chanel Irreelle blush in Mystery...too dark for me as a blush, but i use it as a bronzer. Image

Thanks so much for your response. I tried, but did not succeed, to copy a photo from the Internet Movie Database. The photo you posted (how'd you do that?) is from the Oscars but here's a link to a Golden Globe photo:

http://former.imdb.com/gallery/granitz/5645/Events/5645/HelenMirre_Grani_12251465_400.jpg?path=pgallery&path_key=Mirren,%20Helen

I think her Globe makeup was more intense and, at least on camera and my TV, it looked like she was wearing a cream or gel blush and it's quite possible she has an actual suntan underneath. Since I started shopping around for a blush like this I've noticed companies focus more on powders. The new makeup look is going to be dewy-shiny so maybe they'll be coming out with more of a selection in gels and I'll just have to wait. I have approx 10 powder blushers and don't want to buy another right now. I tried putting a little bit of vaseline over my blush but that just moved the blush around, not a good result. I understand Nars Multiple might be what I'm looking for, but I haven't tested it yet.

Victoria's Secret has a wonderful new translucent gel stick blush. It might be just what you want. I adore gel sticks, and they are very, very hard to find. This one rates right up there with my all time favorite from the (gasp) 70s, Helena Rubenstein's. Take a look when you can.

Oooh, thank you Sidda! There's a Victoria's 15 minutes away...I hope it's not a frosted gel! Are you able to still purchase the Rubinstein gel? I know the brand was out there on the Internet a few years ago, but I haven't looked for it lately. I know the Rubinstein waterproof mascara was a Holy Grail for a lot of women...in fact, I think Helena developed it for the Olympics. At least that's part of cosmetic legends and lore.

Lovely to see her tucking into a burger in her Oscar dress after the awards! Go Helen!

Definately looks like a gel or cream blush. I tried a ruby and millie push up one which was a gel like texture. Looks to me like its a slightly red colour more than pink.

According to the Jane Iredale site, Helen Mirren is a big fan:

JI used to have a cream-to-powder blush in the line that may have been used, but that product has apparently been discontinued. That's not much help, is it? Sorry!

wickawer - what is a "ruby and millie push up?" And yes, you're right, on my TV it was definitely more red than pink. I wish some publication would reveal what makeup she wore. That would quickly resolve this current obsession of mine!

hmmm, is there a tarte gel in a more reddish color? maybe blushing bride? that leaves a sheen for most of the day with no sparkles...

Tarte cheek stain gives that look. I have it and like it a lot. But if you're oily, as I am, it can get too greasy.

I'd say try that. The only thing about celeb photos is that, unless you hear or read the MUA saying which products they used, it's hard to guess based on what that the photo looks. Retouching and lighting alter the image a lot.
