After Hurricane Katrina? it was all over the news here in Aus for a few weeks after it happened, then nothing.

I was just thinking about it today and wondering whether many people came back and started again and how much has been rebuilt? How well have they recovered?

Some of the footage was heart wrenching Crying or Very sad

Hi, Carol

Areas of devastation are still apparent in some places and it will take years to re-build certain areas of New Orleans and many of the outlying areas. A number of small towns in Louisiana and Mississippi were completely wiped out and are gone forever. The French Quarter was the least hit and is starting to come back to life actually quite well.

The political cat-fighting continues and progress isn't as fast as it should be because of that. Also, certain insurance companies are either dragging their heels on honoring claims or aren't honoring them at all leaving these former residents still paying mortgages, having no place to live and having no way to rebuild. Add to that the fact that most of the residents who went back to the city are very poor and you can see the challenge.

I haven't lived there in years but I've been back to visit family twice since Katrina and it's still very disheartening to some of my family members who chose to return.

But rebuilding is going on. It's just that the devastation was so overwhelming that it will take years.

Ari

THIS is why I HATE insurance companies and believe that they are evil, criminal enterprises at best. They will accept your money for years and years, but the minute something like this happens, good luck getting them to pay out on a righteous claim, especially if you are poor and don't have the means to hire an attorney to bark at them! The very same thing happened here in California after the Northridge earthquake - litigation from that is just wrapping up and the EQ happened YEARS ago.
