Health Tip: Foods to Avoid During Pregnancy
They could harm your developing baby
(HealthDay News) -- Safe, well-balanced meals are especially important during pregnancy. The American Pregnancy Foundation says certain foods should be avoided entirely, including:
* Raw meat, shellfish and eggs.
* Many deli meats that could be undercooked and harbor bacteria. During pregnancy, it's a good idea to reheat deli meats until they're steaming.
* Fish that contain mercury or have been exposed to pollutants.
* Smoked seafood.
* Unpasteurized milk, soft cheeses and pate.
* Unwashed, raw vegetables.

Is that true? I've had 2 kids, read lots of books on what to do and what not to do during pregnancy, and I've never heard that. |

I don't know if you are Chinese, I am. Chinese food theory, Watermelon is "cold" (Apple is hot, so if you have a fever, no apple or apple juice.)so, no watermelon during pregnancy. |

i believe most or everyone of you also know that coffee or drinks with caffeine is best to avoid. best is dont take too much of seafood and there are certain vegetable that is said to be "cooling", of which is best to be avoid as well.
for chinese, alot of pregnant women love to take "birdnest" tonics during the pregnancy. but too much of "birdnest" tonics can be cooling for the body also and the baby might have asthma. |

I heard that tuna should be avoided completely due to the high mercury levels. It's better just to take a fish oil supplement to get your EFAs. |

If you want fish for omega three fatty acids but want to avoid mercury, stick with salmon. Especially the oilier salmon varieties like kind, sockeye, and coho. Very low in mercury risk but really good in fish oil. And so tasty... |

mum and grandma have always said that u shouldnt eat watermelon too. u shouldnt eat mung beans either and ALL seafoods and herbal teas!!!
there are also things that pregnant women shouldnt do according to chinese superstitions/traditions- nailing/posting pics to a wall, climbing up a ladder, carry sharp objects...and many more. even tho it sounds a bit OTT, best to follow those strict rules i think! my mum did and i was a healthy baby!!!! |

before 7 months of pregnancy, you should avoid green tea, cold drinks or food like icecream( because it will worsen the respiratory system), herbal tea, watermelon,etc....
Once after 7 month of pregnancy, you can eat nearly many things.
It is my past experience and my little boy is pretty healthy |
