Hi, all. I've just recently added this back to my routine - I did not use it for any length of time previously but thought I get back on the retinoid trail. In any event, I have oily, acne-prone and congested skin so am using the Ystheal Gel. I have been quite liberal in applying (could be the cause of my issue) but while I am getting GREAT results with my eyes and the rest of my skin, I am also having little pimples pop up. This is definitely a reaction as I do not normally break out like this (more prone to congestion/blackheads). Does anyone know, if this is normal to have a purging session? Could it be that my liberal application is causing this? BTW, I have zero drying - in fact, it makes me a little oily. Just for comparison, how much and where are you applying? I'm using it all over (face, under eyes, neck, hands). Oh, and I've also tried Diacneal but that broke me out immediately so I can't use it. Retin-A is also an option but I wanted something I could use all over that would be gentle and I fear it will be too much. Thanks! |

Hi Scally, i used to use Ystheal Gel and it didnt give me pimples. It did however, dry my skin out and cause irritation ( as in redness) so I switched to Avene Eluage cream and like that better. If you havent used retinol for awhile its probably better to use every other night at first.
I suspect it could be purging or if you break out from mineral oil..that could be the culprit.
I wouldnt apply too much as I heard that it can cause irritation. I dont feel like Retinaldehyde products need to be applied heavily. I always apply sparingly. I just dabbed a little bit on each section of my face.It would be less than a pea size amount altogethor. |

Thanks, Carol. I will test it out tonight but use only a pea-size for my whole face and see how that fares. It's weird but it didn't do this the last time; however, I've made so many changes something else could be the culprit or it's the amount I'm using. If it turns out to work as well as I think it will (once I alleviate the breakouts), I'll be extra bummed that they discontinued it. Sheesh. |

Last time I looked on Tubotica they still had some - you could stock up I dont know why they discontinued it, i know alot of people on MUA were disappointed. I still have a tube, I might try it again and see how it goes, though it may be off, its been sitting in my drawer for a yr
Do you apply anything on top of it? I read once that anything applied on top of products with mineral oil cant penetrate the skin as the mineral oil sits on top preventing anything else getting through....whether thats true or not i never tried to find out. Im just wondering if that could cause pores to become blocked?? |

Yep, I was applying my emu/ha/sea kelp. Light bulb goes off. That definitely could be an issue. I won't put anything on top of it and see when I test it tonight. |

Scally,
I alternately use both the Ystheal and Eluage gels -- about 2 pea sized amounts for my face and neck. I use Ystheal eye retinald for under my eyes.
I typically use a mix of HA/emu or HA/Chrysalyx to moisturize - if I don't I look kinda dried up the next day. The only time I've had pimple problems is when I layered some OSEA AtPC over the Avene (happened twice now).

Thanks, Marla. That's good to know. I'm beginning to think I may have caused this by overusing the GSE wash (I was leaving it on for a bit after applying). Perhaps, this is what was causing my breakout. I will shelve it and apply a smaller amount (2 peas for face/neck) and skip my moisturizer just to see how it fares. If all's well, I will know that I can then test with putting my moisturizer on afterward. Oh, and I always wait 30 minutes after I apply before moving on in my routine.
Thanks for the insight, everyone. |

It was definitely leaving the GSE on too long! Powerful stuff so I won't be doing that anymore. BTW, I tried Retin-A .05% last night and LOVED IT! |
