I posted this in the DIY section as a "DIY Zeno" but I know a lot of you ladies don't hang out on that board -- so I though I would post a link:
it's my instructions for making a cheap and easy Zeno alternative for heat treating acne (spot treatment). The theory behind zeno is that heat kills bacteria, increases circulation, and speeeds healing. It does work, especially on acne that is too deep to respond to topicals. It won't do anything for whiteheads or irritation type acne. It will leave your skin red for a few hours (should not be irritated, just a reaction to the heat) so do it at night.

Hi Waffle,
Have you noticed if this works differently on acne that is in its early stages (pimple starting to form)or acne that is fully fledged (big round pimple ready to burt).
I know that many people who have zeno say that it only works if you zap the pimple when you just feel it coming on, but once it is there then the zeno doesn't help.
I know with the derma wand I find that once the pimple has surfaced the derma wand is useless, but if I zap the area where I feel the pimple coming on 2X prior to it surfacing- it goes away.
Have you noticed this with your method at all?
Thanks!

hey CG!
I find that it works as long as it is the swollen type of pimple pretty much at any time. It works better the sooner it is done, but I find that even after a couple of days it helps bring down swelling by morning. Once it comes to head though, there's not much point, because you're at the end cycle of the infection.
I found that I used to be conservative with my zeno because I didn't want to burn through the tips so quickly, so I didn't use it much once the zit had been there for about 24 hours -- but now, I like to do several 5 minute treatments until the thing is gone. Works for me.
Another tip -- if your skin is dry, moisten your fake zeno with a little water with lavendar EO in it and the heat won't dry out your skin.
edited -- I should add that I rarely get whiteheads or zits that ever do come to a head -- I just get the swollen red ones that eventually go back down (unless I stupidly decide to mess with them). This works great on my type of acne, but obviously I can't speak for others. |

I have exaclty that type of acne right now- swollen and red and not deflating on its own.
I was going to try your trick last week but was a little worried, but I will definately try it this time!
Thanks

Heat actually increase sebum production so it will not help acne. |
