I like the mineral makeup in general, but for lips it's been very difficult. I've tried several of the different lip glosses and they all were just the wrong color, too light and too pastel for my skin color, and lip color. My natural lip color was already darker then they were. They were also just too light in pigment and hardly gave any color. I've also tried using the blush powders mixed with my lip balm on top but that didn't work out too well either. I guess a lot of the colors I got for my cheeks don't look that good on my lips and the texture and staying power I could never get right using the powders. I need something with good pigment coverage and a bit more glossy, rather then so powdery and matte or so lip balmy. I also need something for lining the lips. What do you use for lip liner for those who use mineral lip colors? I'd love to find colors that are very neutral and not bright, but are kind of deep. Like brownish nudes, pinks or mauves. I think my coloring is very neutral, so anything too warm or too cool looks weird on me. Monave looks like they have some nice colors, but after getting several others on other sites that looked good on the site and not on me, I'd love any personal favorites.
I like these kind of colors:

I have only ever tried the one's by colorescience, which were ok & generally very longwearing but bit drying I have to say. I think the closet shade they have available to those pictures is probably "lighter shade of pale" (I think that's the name).

I like Jane Iredale lipsticks, very moisturizing. |

BRYG, have you tried Alima's balms yet? Unfortunately they don't have the biggest selection of neutral colors (I prefer to only wear neutrals, browns, and peaches), however, they have one neutral called Chai that has become a daily driver for me--- it's gorgeous! If you are looking for a good neutral mineral lip color, I would highly recommend checking it out. (Also, I forget where it is, but there's a picture of our very own Sundew wearing Chai somewhere on this board, so if you find that it might give you a better idea of how it looks on someone's lips...) |

I like Alima balms too. I haven't tried a neutral from Jane Iredale, but I have the LipShere in babe and I really like it because it doesn't feel dry and it has decent staying power - it's nice that it is SPF 18 too. |

Thanks. The only one I tried of Alima's is the Sugar Rose Lip Balm. Doesn't really work for me. Just too sheer and too warm I guess. I'll try the Chai. I would like something with more pigment though. I guess the problem is that my lips are naturally pretty dark, so most of these just add a bit of sheen, sparkle or lightly tint kind of. The other 2 I tried was Everyday Minerals - Plum Dust and Spring Pink. Also too sheer and wrong colors on me. None of them have added an entirely different shade on top, like lipsticks used to. I guess it's not so bad though, usually I just go without any lip color and wear clear lip balm only, but sometimes I want that dramatic change. |

I like Monave's. Very rich, deep colours and long-lasting. |

Jane Iredale's lipsticks feel pleasant on and don't seem too drying, but there aren't many colors to pick from, especially in the range you're looking for.
BTW, you can get samples of the Alima lip balms. They're very sheer but I didn't care for the ultra-shimmery, frosty look of the ones I ordered. Also, they look best when applied with a lipbrush. |
