This is a product by Citrix. I can't tell you if it works or not because I had to stop using it after only one week. It is loaded with 'cones and I should have known better. Even though I didn't get to use it for very long, I did start to see some sort of brightening effect.
here are the ingredients in case you are interested
cyclomethicone
L-ascorbic acid
silicone polymer
dimethicone
purified water
dimethicone copolyol
phospho-lipids
TGF beta-1
cimicifuga racemosa extract |

This stuff looks interesting. What are 'cones'?
Also, if it is so strong for you, can you use it a lot less, once or twice a week only, seems expensive and a waste if you cant use it at all. |

SandraG - she's referring to all the silicone derivatives - cyclomethicone, dimethicone, etc.
They're very popular ingredients these days, but some people's skin just can't tolerate them. |

I used up a Citrix CRS Serum with Growth Factor 20%. It is somewhat like SkinMedica Vitamin C Complex, which is also cyclomethicone based, but slight dry and thick for more silicone in it.
I should say it is an amazing product. My skin get smoother, brighter & piumper. |

I've used Citrix CRS serum with growth factor for a while and like Dora, I find it amazing. It is my favourite vitamin C product. My only disappointment is how quickly it is to run out of it. |

I did try this about a year ago, it's mentioned in Dr. Baumann's book is how I learned of it and I did like it, made me very "glowy". |

Thank you for the review. I'm still deciding if I should buy Citrix CRS Serum or Vitamin C by Vivier. Did anyone used and compared these two? |

If your skin is sensitive I'd stay away from Citrix CRS as the other member said it has a lot of cones. This may cause you to break out. It made my skin look HORRIBLE covered in little bumps. |

Are you still using this product? Has it caused any breakouts, and have you seen any improvements? Thanks! |

Honestly, if you skin can tolerate it you can see a difference fairly quick. You may have to just test it out for yourself and see if it works. I was kinda upset I had to stop using it, because I saw it working. |

In what ways did it 'work', and was the effect temporary? Thanks! |

It worked in terms of brightening the skin. My skin looked like it had a glow, until I started breaking out. Also when you put it on you feel a bit of a tingle from the Vit C and I like that, because I feel as though it is doing it's job. After a few applications this goes away. Since it has so many silicones in it your skin is left velvety smooth and works as a nice primer for your skin before makeup. So the biggest difference was skin brightening. I cannot comment on how it does for wrinkles or fine lines, since I could not use it long enough, but it does seem like a promising product if your skin can tolerate it. |

No problem! It is definitely worth giving a shot. Just keep an eye out how your skin reacts, because it too me about 2 weeks to realize it was this product. It then took almost a month to get my skin back to normal. If you can find a sample that would be great, but they are hard to come by I think. Let us know how it works out for you. |

It sounds great! I bet some clever DIY could easily formulate it and leave out the 'cones!
I have to laugh at the name though!!! When I see "CRS" it makes me think of "Can't Remember Sh!t". I have that too sometimes. |

But EGFs are so expensive on skinactives!! And they spoil really easily without preservatives.. And this one sounded so great, with growth factors AND vit C all in one! Sigh, but I guess nothing's ever perfect, right?
Haha that's funny I've never heard of that CRS acronym!! |

Too bad it contains all those cones, looks like it might be a nice product but my skin could never handle it either. |

I read the newest post from the blog futurederm.com about a new serum called Vitaphenol Cellustructure Rejuvenating Serum ($195, amazon.com), that also contains l-ascorbic-acid and growth factor. It's almost twice the price as Topix CRS serum though, so I would rather purchase the latter.
http://www.futurederm.com/2009/03/03/product-review-vitaphenol-cellustructure-rejuvenating-serum-and-skin-care-collection/
It turns out to be at least one scientific study showing that the combination of l-ascorbic acid and growth factor is more effective in treating wrinkles than pure l-ascorbic acid serum (but of course vitamin C serums have got the added benefits of antioxidant protection against the sun etc).
This is from a PubMed study from 2006:
Quote: |
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Our study examines the effects of a topical cream containing transforming growth factor-beta(1) (TGF-beta(1)), l-ascorbic-acid, and Cimicifuga racemosa extract (CRS) (Topix Pharmaceuticals, North Amityville, NY, USA).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the first arm of the study, 12 subjects were randomized to apply CRS to the left or right side of their face, and a cream containing l-ascorbic-acid and C.racemosa in silicone base (vitamin C) to the contralateral side twice daily for 3 months. In the second arm of the study, 20 subjects were randomized to apply CRS to the left or right side of their face and Tissue Nutrient Solution Recovery Complex (TNS) (SkinMedica, Carlsbad, CA, USA), a product containing a variety of growth factors including VEGF, PDGF-A,G-CSF, HGF, IL-6, IL-8, and TGF-beta (1) (Nouricel-MD) without l-ascorbic acid, C.racemosa extract, or silicone base, to the contralateral side of their face twice daily for 3 months. Digital photographs were scored by study-blinded physicians, and self-assessments were completed by all subjects at baseline and at the conclusion of the protocol.
RESULTS: CRS and TNS were well tolerated, and all subjects completed the 3-month protocol for the CRS versus vitamin C arm of the study. Physicians rated success in facial wrinkling scores on the CRS-treated side of the face for 27 of 31 subjects, Responders showed, on average, 21.7 % improvement in physician-rated wrinkle scores. The mean improvement in the group of 31 patients as a whole was 12 %. 18 of 31 subjects reported a noticeable improvement on their CRS-treated side. Both CRS and TNS demonstrate significant success between baseline and 3-month scores, and both growth factor products are superior to vitamin C. patients preferred CRS over TNS.
CONCLUSION: CRS is effective in minimizing the appearance of facial rhytides. The success of the CRS product is largely attributable to the incorporation of TGF-beta(1).

Both of those products contain a lot of cones, which make some people break out. I have tried CRS and liked it, but had to stop, because my skin looked terrible due to pimples from it clogging my pores. Another alternative to these two that don't contain cones is Jan Marini Transformation Serum with TGF Beta-1. The price is also very reasonable $78. Currently, skinstore.com is offering 15% off till March 9th. This may be an option for those who don't get 15% off at EDS. |

Thanks Septembergirl for that study. I wonder if you could use your LAA serum and then put a growth serum over it for similar result. I have a few of both and I think i'll go that route and see what I think. (very little 'cones too!). |

This product contains lots of silicone. However, the active ingredient is quite interesting. I do a search on the price, it's very expensive. |

Sis, I was wondering about that, too, but I cannot see why not?
Since you have both serums, I think I would give it a try. Products with 'cones happen to agree very well with my normal/dry skin, so I think I will try out the CRS serum next.
