Ohmigod, - the worst thing is that it took place over a span of 2 hours. This nutjob started his spree in one area and finished it off 2 hours later in another area... where the h@#??? were the security guards?

Just heard 33 dead. Why didn't they lock down the school after the first shooting? My prayers go out to all their families.

This is just a horrible, horrible tragedy. I can not even fathom what the parents of the children slain are feeling.

Just devastating.

I can't believe it. I have family that go there. Thank God that they are okay.

My sister wanted to go there but was rejected. She applied to the engineering dept too. She might have been there if she hadn't. Just goes to show that what you want isn't always the best thing for you.

I feel so horrible for all the families of the victims. Sad

The loss of so many productive, hopeful lives is a horrible tragedy.

Without wishing to sound callous, I have to pose the question: is it just me, or have similar acts of violence seemed to happen every other year since the notorious Columbine High massacre?

They are saying that it started with a fight between the gunman and his girlfriend (though some reports say ex-girlfriend). He then killed his girlfriend and the RA on that same floor.

He then appeared 2 hours later and killed 30 people in the Engineering building, including several students in a German class.

The police should have locked down the campus. They are claiming that there was no reason to think that the shooting in the dorm was nothing other than an isolated incident. Ridiculous! They should have assumed the worst (like they do in any situation really!) before assuming.
The blood of 30 students is on their hands.

Apparently the Westboro Baptist Church (yes the same church that pickets military funerals) is already planning to picket the funerals of the people who died in the VT massacre. The following site is their site and where I got the infor from. IT IS OFFENSIVE TO EVERYONE AND NOT SAFE FOR WORK http://www.godhatesamerica.com/ I really really hope they stop doing this.

They'll never stopped. I've witnessed this man and his hateful speech twice in my life...and I never want to hear him again.

He has little kids carrying around signs with hate speech.
He's a poor excuse for a human being and a religious man.

I agree with Paris. Something should have been done...people should have been made aware and been given the choice as to whether or not to stay on-campus after the first shooting. I wonder why the various nerve centres of this sprawling campus were not put on alert after the first shooting? What about procedure? Anyways, it is a lose/lose situation - just tragic - and extremely frightening.

My heart really goes out to all the families that will have to live through this horror. It's too bad more students weren't licensed to carry concealed weapons --- more lives may have been saved.

Now that we're learning more about this, the Monday morning quarterbacking with the luxury of hindsight begins...how horrible to place the blame on the school instead of the shooter where the blame belongs. I'm not sure what else the school could have done other than what they did by locking down the dorm after the first shooting was discovered.

The one piece of good news is that the shooter had the good grace to kill himself.... I'd hate to see the families go through the travesty of a trial while his defense lawyer in turn uses the bad childhood defense to get him off...
