Hi..I have seen other posts about Japanese Whitening masks like KOSE and have seen people rave about them but what I want to know is what products actually lighten the skintone? I have read reviews of people saying products like Kose have 'brighten' up their skintone but what about actually ligtening it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |

I've never tried Asian brighten stuff. But, I think the Vit C serum such as Skinceutical and Cellex C work to brighten skin tone. |

I've tried Skinceutical Vit C, it's too dry, a little bit helpful to tone the skin, no brightening for me. But the Vit C from Decleor whitening line is really good, while it's still kind of dry to me, actually I'm still wondering why I feel so dry on Vit C, since I have combination skin. So now I transfer to Asian products, especially shiseido, at least it doesn't cause anything bad, will share about the result later, just used for couple of weeks. |

I requested a sample of the white Cream from DHC for evening out skintone so we will see if that helps when it comes in. |

i am a sucker for anything which has whitening effect !!
h, from my experience, the following are effective whitening skincare products
1) Kose sekkesei
2) Albion essential skin conditioner (sadly only available in Japan)
3) Mario Badsceu (spelling?) whitening mask (but it causes minor bumps whenever i use it, so i have to give it up)
4) Royal Concubine whitening mask (a Hong Kong brand)
5) pearl powder + rose water |

I'm not sure if they have this product in every country, but the Lancome Neurowhite Blanc Expert High Potency Whitening Spot Eraser seems to be effective in those who have tried. It's actives include ellagic acid, salicylic acid, licorice root extract (this is quite far down the ingredient list) and some other plant extracts. It has been reported to work as well as, or even better than 4% hydroquinone, without the side effects of hydroquinone. It may be a product for the Asian market. |

I used Kose sekkesei toning lotion. The whitening effect is almost instant, but not sure if the effect will last long term. |

I have heard Kose sekkesei is good for whitening from may reviews. Perhaps I would like to try. But, is it safe for any skin type? |

I thought skii and kose is good product for whitening but KOSE is full of alchol that can cause irritation if you have sensitive skin. |

Yes, I agree, for me, I'll never use Kose sekkesei, I don't think it's safe enough for sensitive skin. I heard people saying it's really effective in whitening your skin, but eventually it'll let your skin more sensitive. |

I agree the whole line of Decleor is soft, but I don't find it's effective for me, except for the Vit C serum. |

I have only used the Bright/White Plus range from Clarins & overall I thought it was pretty good. I wouldn't say my skin was any "lighter" but definitely had more of a bright, healthy glow. I'm also interested in trying the Decleor whitening mask next. |

I've used Kose sekkesei in the past for about 2 years. It smells really good imo and is nice to use. The whitening/ brightening effect is not really apparent on me because i'm very fair. Kept my skin dewy and clear though. Contains alcohol if i remember correctly, like most of their products. |

It is my understanding that the Kose line will provide more clarity and evenness to the skin tone, pretty much the "brightening" effect that the OP mentioned, but it does not do any real job at whitening.
The true whiteners are things like hydroquine and kojic acid. I have yet to seriously use either, so I can't offer a specific product rec, but if you do a board search, there should be plenty of topics. |

Also, forgot to mention - the MakeupAlley folk are very fond of Meladerm and Maxi Peel. Maxi Peel is a 4% Hydroquine I believe, while Meladerm is something else entirely. Both are reputed to work very well, particularly on brown spots. |
