This article should help to enlighten you a bit:

A friend once told me he bought milk at costco, and I asked him how he could finish 2 gallons of milk when he's just a single guy. He said the milk kept well in his fridge for 3 months. I was like YIKES!!!!!!!!!!! There's no way ANY milk could keep well for 3 months, but he said his fridge was very cold, so the milk didn't spoil. I think he's full of it. My milk stays good only 5-7 days after the sell-by date, but I try to pick milk with the latest sell-by date possible, which is usually 2 weeks from the day I buy it. That gives me only 3 weeks, not 3 months.

I'm with you bkkgirl ...

No way milk can last 3 months ... unless he freezes it. Smile

I've frozen milk before ... although it's a little wonky when you thaw it. It tastes OK ... but it looks really strange when thawed.

Perhaps your friend has ... um ... defective taste buds? Laughing

Mary

Usually I get milk at Sam's club (just like Costco) but have stopped since I had a bit of an incident a month or so ago, although for the past 10 years that's where my milk had been coming from. The milk was not past its expiration date (still had 2 or so weeks left) and when I went to pour it, it was 'stretchy' out of the gallon. Looked like glue. Imagine trying to pour stretchy milk down the sink......pretty interesting to say the least. Needless to say, I buy little cartons now. So yes, I believe your friend is just full of it Bad Grin.

I buy my milk from Trader Joe's now since they said their milk doesn't have hormones or antibiotics in it. That seems a plus. It's about $2.79 a gallon for fat free.

Maybe your friend doesn't know the difference between milk and mature cheese! Very Happy

I've heard adding a pinch of salt to the milk will help it stay fresh longer.

I drink mine so fast it's always gone well before the expiration date, so I don't know if that's an old wives' tale or if it actually helps!

Oh how I wish there was a Trader Joe's in Colorado. It seems like I'm missing out on all the good stuff (Trader Joe's shampoos, sweets, and now........milk) Laughing.
