Can anyone please illuminate me or send me somewhere I can find out? I have both and have been using both the same way - on the apples of my cheeks with a blush brush. Am I limiting my experiences??? I have dark skin with yellow tones (MAC NC35-42. Also how to tell how much blush to apply. I usually go with a very light hand. Whenever a make-up assistant does it, I feel like a clown. |

I've just started to wear a bit of bronzer and where I use it is similar to blush. I run it from around my temples to the top of my cheekbones, down the centre of my nose and sometimes a little on my chin. You're supposed to put it where the sun would naturally give you a glow, I believe. I use a powder brush myself (which is much larger than my blush brush) ... you can also buy a bronzer blush which is also larger.
With blush, I am using this new trick I learned at the Bobbi Brown counter. I use a more natural shade (a pinky brown) across my cheekbones from the apple of the cheek to the hairline and blend it a little bit down the cheek (don't make it too dark ... just enough to make a nice natural flush and then you don't end up with an 80's strip of colour on your cheek! ). Then, you take a brighter colour and just apply that right to the apple of the cheek. Once again, blend blend blend! It's a really nice look with that little extra pop of colour.
As for the amount of blush ... you want just a nice natural flush. Start off with less (you can always add more) and then experiment from there. I agree ... many times when I get a makeover at a counter, I always go away thinking it's all way too dark!

I have the same coloring as you. I'm naturally tan (avoid the sun like the plague) mac nc42. I don't use bronzer to look more tan though. I use a matte bronzer as a contour-hollows of cheeks edge of hairline & jaw & sides of nose. For years I didn't wear blush b/c I would end up looking like a clown reject, until I found the skunk brush. It's pretty much goof proof as the application is very light. I just keep layering until I get a natural flush & I mostly apply it to the apples of my cheeks & then afterwards blend towards my hairline. |

oh, that's really good to know leidon!!! Plus, I've been looking for a reason to get the skunk brush - is it the fan one or the sort of flat-top one? I'm hoping you'll say the flat top one. So, you use a bronzer as a blush? I must have about 10 blushes - which look very very similar to me. I bought them at different times but they all look so heavy. I usually try them at w/e and invariably DH says - why are you wearing so much make-up?!! |
