I use retinoids every night and occasionally, I still get heavy flaking. It's not usually a big deal unless I have an important business meeting and panic at the thought of all those people staring at my face flakes!
I have read that using an enzyme peel right before such an event will help get rid of flakes quickly, even if temporary - that's all I need - a few flake-free hours!
I'd like to make my own peel...does anyone know of a formulator who offers/sells the ingredients to create an at-home enzyme peel that I can formulate to my own desired strength?
Thanks! BF |

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but the link above is a site I use when looking for recipes.
The personal formulator website is popular with the DIY'ers on this site. |

It' not a home recipe, but it sure is inexpensive and effective. I use the St. Ives apricot scrub with cleansing grains, which is under $5.00 here in Canada. I use it a couple times a week, and they have various formulas, including sensitive if needed.
I also find that even though I use Reisol-A, a peel mask etc. that sometimes my skin doesn't shed the dead skin 100%, therefore a gentle polishing with the cleansing grains finishes the job |

Several places (like Skin Actives and GOW) have pumpkin enzyme peels for a reasonable price. PSF also has a nice premade one. I've used each and they seem to work to cause a slight peel. This made me flakier at first. I'm used to AHA peels and these did not sting but did seem to cause the to skin to peel. |

I know exactly what you're talking about. My favorite product to use for this is the Zia Papaya Mask (you can get it at drugstore.com). It's super gentle and really helps to get rid of the flakes (I usually follow up with a muslin face cloth). I use other, stronger products for a "peel" effect. |

StellaMarie,
Why follow with a muslin face cloth? Does that help the peel? |

It's hard to phrase well, but basically, I think the enzyme peel "loosens" up the flakes so they can be wiped away. I'm not sure that it's necessary, but I do find it helpful. |
