Thank you ScotsLass for responding! I know one only gets a little during OP, but some people do it for months and years. Their absorbtion must be loads higher....of course, my idea came during a mouth full of oil with a bit of gag thrown in. (Got it a little to far back when I started and every time I dry swallowed I could taste oil residue...gag!
Actually, that makes total sense! The human mouth is a nasty place. What if OP detoxes just the mouth! Better oral health does affect the body as a whole so this makes sense to me! I'd be interested to hear what additional info you find out!
I'm intrigued by the idea of OP and am giving it the ol' college try. If the worse thing I get is whiter teeth....poor me. I'm ok with that out come. hehe If i get a cleaner mouth...then I'm satisfied there.
I never heard of it until yesterday while catching up on topics here. One of the 101 things I didn't know until EDS.
Keep us posted on your findings! |

You're welcome, Deanne! And I couldn't agree more - if OP does nothing other than whiten my teeth, I will be one happy camper!!! |

I was a little dubious about trying this, although it definitely seems to be working for people, but your possible explanation sounds very plausible, Scotslass. I'm encouraged to give it a try. |

Welcome to the unique world of oil pulling, Majorb! It took me a while before I decided to take the plunge and give it a try myself, so I understand your apprehensions well! Once you establish an OP routine please come back and let us know if you noticed any great results (whiter teeth, improved gums, etc). |

Does OPing HAVE to be done on an empty stomach, or is it just recommended because of the gag reflex? |

Diana, I was trying it with the sunflower oil and found it was making my teeth more yellow too. Are we in the minority here? Is it us or the oil? |

Well I thought that was what it was doing all along, ridding the mouth of all the bacteria that lurks there, in fact, I visited my dentist for my regular check-up last week, and he commented on how good my teeth and gums looked. I told him about the OP. He had never heard of it but said it made sense because so much bacteria lives in the mouth, and said he would research it, but he said it was definitely benefiting my gums, so well worth keeping it up for that alone. |

Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I was originally using grocery store bought sunflower oil with OoO and found my teeth were getting more yellow. On Friday I found cold-pressed sunflower oil so I have started OPing again using that with the OoO. I'm hoping my teeth won't go yellow this time. If they do then I'm going to stop using OoO and see if that's what doing it. |

Hi DianaP! May I ask what brand of OoO you are using? Almost every brand available of OoO is diluted with organic olive oil or grape seed oil. The OoO I have been using contains 80% organic olive oil and I have not noticed any yellowing effects on my teeth at all! I not only place 8+ drops under my tongue every day (and hold it there for 2+ minutes before I swish & swallow anything that hasn't absorbed), I also add an extra drop directly to a tooth I am concerned about PLUS one drop to my OP oil. I have not found my teeth to yellow at all from all of the OoO I use everyday. So I am wondering if this has anything to do with sunflower oil in general (does it contain something that leaches some sort of yellowing compound?). Now that you've switched to cold pressed sunflower you may notice a difference, but only time will tell. I am really liking 100% organic virgin coconut oil which also contains naturally occurring antibacterial/antifungi properties. It does not contain ANY coloring so I am confident that it cannot cause any yellowing of my teeth. I also haven't noticed any yellowing from the drop of OoO I add to it either. Your experience is a curious one so I hope you determine through elimination what is causing the problem. |

Congrats on having such a positive dental check-up! Eliminating as much bacteria in your mouth as possible does makes a giant difference to your oral health (and by extension the health of your body), so I am not doubting that a OP routine is helpful on this level. I just wish the practice of oil pulling had been positioned this way from the get-go rather than confusing the issue with the notion that toxins are being pulled from your lingual artery at the same time. Now that I feel safe to spit in my sink again , and OP AFTER I eat (yup, I'm pulling out all the stops now!), I hope to see further improvements with my teeth and hope that my dentist is as impressed with the state of my gums as much as yours was during my next visit. |

I am going to find out soon enough as I am no longer going to OP on an empty stomach (just to see exactly what will happen!!! ). If I notice any adverse reactions I'll post back right away...somehow I have a sneaky suspicion that I will be perfectly fine. BTW, oil pulling on an empty stomach is supposedly easier on your body as there is less stress on your system as it is detoxifying from toxins. As I am doubtful that toxins are being pulled from anywhere other than my mouth, I am less worried about taxing my body with detox overload (which can make you feel nauseous or ill). |

I am using Joy of the Mountains OoO. And I only put in 1-2 drops per mouthful. Not sure how you keep 8 drops in your mouth, I can harldy stand the taste of it. The last couple days I haven't noticed the yellowing. It was so weird though before when I was using the store boughten sunflower oil. My teeth are pretty white and they started to get a yellow tinge to them so I stopped the OPing and used the Murad ear drops on them and they brightened right up again. Hopeful things will be OK now but I'll post again in a few days. |

Let me know what happens. Up to now I have only OP on an empty stomach and when I spit in the toilet (you spit in the sink now?) it would be a milky white and would mix up with the water. This morning I had a yogurt right before, and I OP for about 25 minutes as normal, but this time when I spit it out it was not as white and it didn't mix with the water. It stayed balled up and floated as oil does when it mixes with water. Strange, not sure if it was the eating first or not, but it's never done that before. |

Okay then, it really sounds as if it's the grocery store sunflower oil that is causing the problem. I actually hold 4 drops of OoO under my tongue two times daily. The most I've every tried at once was 6 drops and that set off a bad detox reaction (headache and feeling unwell). The longer you can hold OoO under your tongue, the more the taste will dissipate. I hardly notice it at all now and only have a slightly bitter after-taste once I swallow. Of course I always follow my OoO with an 8 oz glass of water, so I'm certain this helps to flush my mouth of any lingering residue. |

It may be the saliva/enzyme activity that is different when your stomach is empty and this is why the oil looks different when you OP after you eat. I will test the same thing and let you know. As for spitting in the sink versus the toilet; I have decided to keep a special spray bottle of ammonia under my vanity to use immediately after I spit into the sink now. I'm not as much of a germaphobe about the process now that I am discovering that it is probably much less toxic than I was first led to believe. This is not to say the oil does not contain nasty stuff, I feel certain it does! It just means I'm not as worried about the 'deadliness' of what it might be anymore! |

Neostrata has sthg called Bionic Face Serum. It has 10% PHA and really gives your skin a nice dewy glow. It's like a skin pick-me-up. No stinging, no allergies. |

UPDATE 5/30/2007
GLOWING SKIN JUICE FAST!!
3.Drink organic orange juice 2x a day and have 1 pineapple a day.
The pineapple is to renew the skin, and it is working, big time! I'm only on my 6th day, and already two people have asked me what I did to my skin (on my face). The texture is totally different - it's really smooth. It looks great. Two days ago two people remarked about the glow. I think the pineapple is making a huge difference in the quality of my skin. |

Also I make sure my colon and intestines get a daily cleanse while doing this b/c if colon is congested then you wont get the full nutrients.
I also started taking Sitzing baths. Its similiar to a detox bath. They are excellent!!! |

I've done enema after surgeries to get the bowels moving again but I haven't done them on a regular basis. I just bought the ready made enemas from the drugstore and they work good. |
