Ive never hired one (I think I have pretty good taste and know what works for me, not to mention Im THE pickiest person ever!) but, I know that Nordstrom provides this service free of charge, you just have to call and make an app. Neiman's has stylist too but Im not sure if they are free. |

OMG...this post made me realize...my brother's fiancee used to be the assistant to a celebrity fashion stylist (the fiancee now works for Vera Wang) in NYC. I'm headed to NYC in June...maybe I get can some tips from her!!!!
I don't think any of the dept. stores down here have fashion stylists available...we're not that upscale |

Thats one reason I love Dallas so much....the shopping rules! Its so convenient and such a wide variety, I live within driving distance of 5 great malls and at least 4 Saphoras not to mention the spas and hair salons! Im so spoiled to it...I honestly cant think of one store or designer that we dont have, not that I have oodles of cash to buy whatever I want but its nice to window shop too! |

I always thought that would be a fun thing to do. Like someone like Stacey and Clinton on "What Not To Wear". I love seeing some of the people on that show swear they will never wear a particular type of style, and then they convince them to give it a try and they look fabulous (and they agree). I think having a professional like that be able to help pick out things you may not normally go for, would be a good experience in opening your eyes to new possibilities. |

Oh silly me, that has never come across my mind. I thought personal stylist is celebrity's monopoly. Would love to hear from someone have done that. |

Heavens! I've been thinking of doing this! But I probably don't have the $$$.
Look into Bridgette Raes! I think she does this sort of thing. Do let us know how it goes! |

I'm pretty sure Macy's and Bloomingdales (in Chicago) offer personal shopping service. They only help you w/their store... but it would be a great place to start...and it's free! |

the cheapest way to do this is find a boutique you really like, and try to find a sales associate that you can really work with -- just ask point blank if they work on commission. Most upscale boutiques work that way -- and let her know what you want to do. I used to be a 'personal shopper' for several people in san francisco, and we worked out an arrangment (not connected to the store) where I'd let them know a good time to come in, I'd pull aside a lot of clothes for them and make special orders and all that. they would get a free personal stylist, and I'd make a ton of commission. Most sales associates on commission will be delighted with that arrangment. The best part is, if you repeatedly use them, it's likely that you'll start getting discounts. I use to give my 'clients' free stuff all the time. |
