I guess title says it all!
I'm going with my DH to the US in less than two weeks, and as he is going attend a conference I have plenty of time to shop... and relax and enjoy the hotel spa... So where to go and what to shop for, preferably something that is not easily available in Europe?
We are staying a week in Santa Clara (San Fransisco area) and then driving to Seattle to fly home (planning to visit quite a few vineyards and stuff on the way..) Anything we should really do while we are there? |

Of course, if you can find a Trader Joe's near your hotel, you should check it out. It's a unique grocery store. Their food (frozen, refrigerated or dry) is great. Not to forget the Nourish Spa Shampoo and Conditioner. Also you should check out Whole Foods Market. They got lots of skincare lines there. You can search for Whole Foods Market location in Santa Clara on google. |

Thank you, bkkgirl. Is there any special brands I should be on the lookout for? I am actually a terrible shopper.....
By the way, if anyone have any tips on what foods I absolutely have to try, give it to me! I LOVE food and always try to taste a local specialities when I am travelling (with a few exceptions..). |

You need to stop by whole foods, just do a search there. It's a wonderful place. If you are driving to seattle, maybe you can stop on in Oregon, and do some shopping there since there's no sales tax in Oregon, 8% in Washington and California. |

For beauty care I also second Sephora or Ulta... Maybe even Sally Beauty Supply for some hair tools. I would also stop by TJs to stock up their shampoos and conditioners... |

Oh yeah, if you're going to drive from Santa Clara to Seattle, you need to stop in Oregon. It's beautiful there.
Brands to look for? I'm not sure because I don't really shop Whole Foods too much as it's not too close to me. Just from the last time I was there to meet Mabsy, I saw they got tons of brands of skincare they carry. Dr. Hauschka (Sp?) is one of them. Burt's bees is another that I can remember. If you don't feel like buying, you can just do the testers for fun. |

You forgot Trader Joe's!! You really must pick up the Nourish Spa shampoo and conditioner. They sell these (under a diff brand name but from the same manufacturer) at Whole Foods for $11 (according to my friend who is a director at TJs). TJs sell them for $2.49 each. I much prefer to pay $2.49 than $11 for some strange reasons. |

Ok, I am no making a fancy list in my computer. Where to go and what to look for! My DH is very proud of me, he loves lists!
Now I only have to convince him to go horseback riding with me in Oregon. Actually I am trying to find a vineyard where we can go horseback riding during the day, and have wine tasting and fancy foods in the evning and maybe stay the night. |

I'll get back to you on the wine tasting. My best friend's bf is a wine lover, and I know they went wine tasting in Napa Valley last year. I'll email her. |

Hi Schnee,
Here's a response from my friend:

The Napa wineries we went to don't have horse back riding. I don't know anything about the horse back riding. "French Laundry" restaurant is very upscale and Really nice (need to call for reservations sooner than later and it is very hard to get in for dinner). If they want to go something less fancy than French Laundrry -- Auberge Du Soliel is also nice for dinner and the hotel is Amazing. Mark and I went by there last time we were around Napa.
Back to French Laundry --- Chef, Thomas Keller is very famous and just released new book that looks awesome. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Thank you for asking your friend! It is so funny becuase the French Laundry is already on our list. We are proper food and wine freaks. I will have a look at the other place too. We might do Walla Walla Valley too, if it isn't too much out of our way.

Uh... there is nothing really going on in Santa Clara, I was there for a week too.. Expensive place.
Anyway, you might want to hit SF, where you can find more of cheaper food... and probably shop in market st... |
