As titled. Is it true? I read somewhere that the bacteria of acne loves cornstarch. Some cosmetics contains cornstarch as their ingredient, so does that mean it'll cause clogged pores and breakouts? I'm not sure if this is true or not. Anyone has some insights to this? |

Funny that you ask this question, because I know that I have read postings about cornstarch being a main ingredient in some powders and it may irrate skin. But with that said I did some research after reading this post and found that mixing cornstarch and egg whites help to absord excess oil on your face and making a cornstarch and vinegar mask helps such out blackheads. So, I am wondering if this is just a guess that the cornstarch in powder makeup causes breakouts. Maybe we should do some tests.

Many people want to be able to treat there acne at home, without buying expensive treatments that may or may not work. Unfortunately, almost all of the home remedies for acne simply will not help.
However, it is not impossible that these have and will work for some people. For example, hydrocortisone cream may reduce the swelling of an inflamed pimple. Also, I have heard on more then one occasion that a dab of non-gel toothpaste will ‘dry out’ a pimples (I tried this several times and it has never worked for me.)
The following is a list of acne home remedies that have been recommended to people in the past:
Toothpaste- place a dab of non-gel toothpaste to dry out zits
Hydrocortisone Cream- place a dab on an inflamed zit to reduce swelling
Lemon juice- use as a drink or apply topically
Baking soda paste- use as a gentle exfoliator
Egg whites- use as a facial mask
Milk of magnesia- apply a thin layer and use as a facial mask
Raw garlic- eat a few cloves daily
Cornstarch- combine with water and use as a mask to absorb oil
Hydrogen peroxide- Use as a toner that does not dry out your skin (I tried this but it never helped my acne)
Vinegar- use as a toner (beware, this will probably dry out your skin too much and cause redness).
Aspirin- mash with some water and apply to skin like a mask
Green tea- drink a few cups daily
Eye drops- use drops that reduce eye redness to decrease the redness in your pimples |

Thanks bergquis for replying Well, I did a search on the internet and found some sites that say cornstarch is good for irritated skin and to absorb oil. But I also found some sites that say cornstarch is not to be used on skin cuz yeast and bacteria love it. hhm so I'm just wondering if anyone here used cosmetics that contain cornstarch and if they experience any problems with it. That would really help a lot, thanks. |

I can't really use anything that has cornstarch in it.. it'll break me out and make me itch like crazy. I'm fine with tapioca starch though. |

When my infant daughter developed a yeast infection on her bottom, I asked the pediatrician if I should stop using baby powder (mainly cornstarch). I had heard to that the cornstarch would "feed" the bacteria. She said it wasn't true and I could still use it. |
