I have been researching new supplements that compliment one another such as a mutli vitamin and an additional calcium supplement (since the Country Life Maxine Mutli, the multi supp I am interested in, only contains 100mg). (see it here: http://www.vitacost.com/CountryLifeMaxineMultiVitaminMineral ). I like the rest of the contents of the CL Maxine but I wish it contained more calcium (it only contains 100mg -10% daily value). The thing is, it contains 300mg of Magnesium (75% daily value) already so adding another calcium supplement that contains magnesium would increase the magnesium mg to around 800mg (or 200% daily value). If I find a calcium supplement without magnesium I would only be getting 75% daily value of mag. I feel like I am in a catch 22. Would taking 75% be way too little? I know that magnesium is important for the absorption of calcium so I would want to take enough of it. I also have heard that too much magnesium is harmful to a person (such as above 350 mg per day).

Also, the CL Maxine only contains 200IU of Vitamin D (50% dv) so I was thinking of adding a calcium supp with vit D but if I do that then I would be taking 600IU or 150% dv. Would that be too much vitamin D? Or am I just being too cautious?

What I might end up doing is buying a couple different calcium supplements (one with mag and D and one with out) that I can alternate AM and PM. (Like if a serving that contains 500mg of magnesium is 4 caps then I would only take 1 or 2 and then take another supplement that just contains calcium at night to up my % dv of calcium). (Does this make sense?!) Brick wall

Also, how important is phosphorus? (The CL Maxine only contains 41mg or 4% dv).

ETA: I just read on http://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/vitamind.asp that tolerable upper intake levels of vit D are as much as 2000IU for a woman of 19+ years. So I am sure 150% (600IU) of vit D would be find for me especially b/c I limit my sun exposure.

ETA again: A thought occurred to me- if there are supplements out there that contain 125% (500mg) of magnesium in one serving wouldn't that mean that that dosage would be ok to take? Even if it is above the upper intake tolerance level of 350mg? Otherwise, how would they be able to sell it?

According to this site (I go here often for info), the recommended dosage for magnesium is 250–350 mg per day and the recommended dosage for vitamin D is 200 IU per day.
