So, a while back I posted asking if anyone had ever heard of or used this particular product. The shopping channel here (TSC) was featuring it and it seemed interesting. They called it a home microdermabrasion device. I knew it wouldn't be equivalent to a salon procedure, but I was curious and thought I'd order it and give it a try (the Shopping Channel has a great return policy so that I can return it if I'm not satisfied).
Here is a link to the TSC page for this product:

So here are my thoughts...
I used this for the first time last night. I wasn't expecting salon quality like I said, but I was curious if it would offer more exfoliation than a manual scrub. The machine is plastic and come with two attachments ... one for larger areas of the face and a smaller attachment for areas like around your nose, etc. It comes with two refills and they suggest that you will use 1/2 a refill for each treatment. The refills are $36 for two, so you're looking at about $8 a treatment which is pricey compared to a manual scrub, but I figured if it was "somewhat" comparable to a salon procedure, that would be a real bargain! They call their micro-crystals "Vegclat" which they say comes from wheat and vegetable products. Oh, the machine itself was $200.
So I washed my face (with my new Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash ... LOVE that stuff!) and then got to work. Right away you can tell the suction isn't close to the professional models. And here I was hoping it would suck up all my blackheads! It distributes the micro-crystals through a plastic tube and then sucks it up at the same time. Well, it sucks some of them back up ... you are still left with crystals on your face as well (plus, later I realized I had the microcrystals all down my chest too where they had fallen!). The refill has a "waste" dispenser too and you can see it fill up. Anyway, I put the tip on my face and moved it across my skin like I remember the professionals doing when I'd last had a professional treatment. Afterwards, when I washed all the remaining crystals on my face and checked my skin ... it DID seem smooth, but was it any smoother than a manual peel? I don't THINK so, but does it have other benefits? That I'm not sure about. I did notice that my face was a bit red afterwards and you could see in areas where I had moved the head across my skin.
So ... to sum it up, I am going to try this machine one more time this coming weekend before I make a decision. I rushed my treatment last night as well, so next time I'd like to take more time and really do a thorough job of it. It IS definitely pricey, but a price that would be justified if the results are there, but I'm just unsure at this point if it's any better than a manual scrub. I'd love to read other reviews on this machine, but there's not much to come by on the internet. And the other thing I'm worried about is that what if I keep it and one day I can't find the refills? I couldn't find this machine for sale anywhere in North America ... the only other sites seemed to be European.
I'll update this review if I come up with any other conclusions about its effectiveness! |

I was curious about the refills too. I've been stucked with Chelsea's Diamond Dermabrasion for the past three years and I can't get the refill cream. I can't even find them on the internet. |

Just an update. I've decided to send this back. Thinking about trying to find refills if I kept it (if the Shopping Channel one day no longer carries it) and that fact that it didn't seem really any better than a manual scrub plus the cost per treatment, swayed my decision. Plus, yesterday I noticed a bunch of little bumps all over my chin, so it's either some of the KS products I've started using OR it was the Vegeclat product from this microderm machine (I'm really hoping it was this or the KS sunscreen which I seemed to react to a bit and not anything else from the line). |
