I've been researching microdermabrasion as I was set on getting myself a few treatments before I start using all my new EDS-found goodies. BUT, I've read through all the threads about TCA and was wondering whether this may be a better alternative, one that I could potentially do myself at home. Which would give me better results? How rapidly would results be seen between the two procedures? Downtime?
I have large pores on my cheeks, and several deeper pick-marks from old acne, as well as the red/brown spots of acne-past. I have a consult at PureMedSpa in a few days, so just wanted to see if I could get some input before then. Thanks! |

| i think TCA would likely give you better and quicker (maybe even more dramatic) results, but definitely more downtime--a week or more for all the peeling to clear. Depending on how strong the peel is the better results you will see, but best to start off slow to make sure you don't scar yourself and end up worse off than you began. |

I'm debating between a few microdermabrasion sessions which are probably milder overall thus less downtime, but more expensive.
The 12.5% TCA would be cheaper overall, but I'm kinda chicken to do it myself and I'm worried about the long downtime and now that it's summer, it's hard to avoid the sun(although 18 dollars for shipping to canada seems crazy!) |

After reading all the posts here (phew!) I think I'm going to try the TCA peels first...
Should I start with an all-over 12.5% or a 20% TCA-cross? |

Hi HannaLee - I just pm'd you back.
Just wanted to add that IMO the 12.5% really is a light peel - you might feel a light tingly sensation but nothing too major. I almost wondered if it had worked when I first did it but every place I had swiped my skin did peel or rather flaked with the 12.5%. I would invest in a stronger % peel as well for later if your skin is NOT sensitive as that will give a better result - OF course only go higher in % once your skin has adjusted to the 12.5%. I have to pay $18 as well for shipping so I bought a few things. Keep us posted. HTH Dips |

I did spot treatments with 20% TCA. I frosted the same moment and turned sore dark brown afterwards. The treated spots got to more or less people-presentable condition a week after the peel. Different people react differently to the same TCA strength solution. I have fair skin, and realized that 20% was it was way too strong for me. To treat entire face I would start with a weaker solution, maybe 12.5% would be also too strong for me.
HannaLee, I would recommend you to start with a weaker solution, spot test it first though. TCA solution is water soluble, so you can get a stronger solution, like 20%, and dilute it with water to a lower 12% or so. You do not need to purchase two separate solution strengths. |

Soooo, I think I will try the TCA peel using 12.5% concentration all over my face to start out.
Would it be okay to go back and do another layer on my problem spots (ie a 12.5% TCA cross as a second layer?)
I'm a bit scared of the major peeling/shedding people have mentioned. With the 12.5%, will it just be similar to winter dryness or should I expect summer hibernation? |
