FrevaKZ,
That’s the problem with sitting at a screen staring at the written word with no facial expressions to guide you, especially when the question asked is so short. I mistook your question to mean why would a woman want to have this procedure done. For that I apologize.
Even though a hysterectomy, especially a complete hysterectomy, is less often performed now because there are more and better treatment alternatives, some medical conditions are such that there is still no alternative to removal of at least the uterus. From cancer to severe endometriosis to a ruptured or displaced uterus, the reasons for removal are varied and individual but must be very serious for hysterectomy to even be considered.

Thank you!! Although many women in my family have had this done, I've never understood why, only that sometimes the uterus is removed to prevent or somehow combat cancer.
It sounds squeamish to me... Kudos to the strong ladies out there who have had it done. |

My sentiments exactly!! That's what I thought too: "Why did I wait so long to have this done? I feel so much better now!"
Hope you are on your way to going home soon, red head. Yes, as Freva says, "Be a Princess"!

My sister suffered with fibroids, endometriosis, and anemia. She was such a beeyotch for years, because of the pain. When she finally had the hysterectomy done, her reaction was "why did I wait so long?"
I'm sure everything will go well, RedHead. I wish you a speedy recovery! |
Hey that was me except for one thing, when will I stop being a beeyotch I remember the pain and that one time when I told my husband that maybe we should go to the hospital he asked "what can they do for you?" that was the day he almost fell victim to a tragic accident.

Well Iam home and all went very well. They found alot of scar tissue and I was up and walking around that afternoon. I still feel in drug land but no internal stitches and only 3 small incesions on the stomach. The reason this was done was heavy bleeding, fibroids and many atempts to control it to no avail. So this week home and walking in the house next week home also can't drive for 7-10 days and no lifting or straining for at least 6 weeks. So will keep you posted

I had it done in 1988. About 2 years later we moved and while cleaning I found a box of tampax down below all the drawers. I said to myself "I don't miss you".
Glad everything went well. Oh, and if your husband wants to do things for you always say yes. Take advantage of the situation, milk it for what it's worth cause you deserve it.
And be sure to follow all instructions about lifting and driving. It's good advice. |

Dale, a former work colleague of mine had a hysterectomy to remove fibroids, and she was amazed how much better she felt when she'd healed. I remember her saying how she wished she'd had it done years ago, just like others have posted.
So take it easy for the time being. I'm sure it will all have been well worth it. |
