excellent shaving advice not withstanding, I still think guys shave their pubes to give the appearance of a longer shlong Laughing

Yeah, when pressed, the guys I dated who shaved said they did it for aesthetic reasons - Bachelor #1 said it was "To pleasure the woman" (gah! I hated it because it actually hurt me when the stubble pricked my uber-sensitive bits, and I told him that and asked him to stop for me, but he didn't want to stop because he wanted to remain attractive to 'women in general' - get in line, ladies, I saw him first!), and Bachelor #2 said it "looks better (and bigger) this way" - yep, he admitted to that one. Who knows, I'm sure guys have a zillion reasons for all their personal grooming habits like us women do, but I'm just happy to be settled with a non-shaver now who likes the mini-trim I do on myself. Smile

In all seriousness, though, there was a sort of fad at my (all-female) college where we all started dying our pubic hair weird colors. For some it was a great gay pride symbol (the ultimate pink triangle, no?) and for others it was just a silly kick (I did purple, orange, teal, and pink, over the course of the year), but it was definitely a weird bonding activity through and through! We'd all be in shower stalls with toothbrushes and bowls of bleach and the next day the shower stalls would look like someone had dyed Easter eggs in them.

This all occurred during my sophomore year. During my senior year, I was a nude model for art classes, and a bunch of my friends urged me to "revive the trend" for the last class I modeled for, because HOW FUNNY would it have been if all the oh-so-serious art students saw you disrobe with flaming orange hair-down-there. I mean, I'm just supposed to sit there still and silent for three hours, and the atmosphere was always very quiet and studious, talking was really discouraged. So how amusing would it be to unveil THAT surprise, and have no one really be able to say anything? For THREE HOURS? Hahahahaha. It would've been funny, agreed, but I didn't have the guts or heart to go through with it - and by the end of the year I was quite good friends with all the students, as we'd chat after class let out, so I would've felt strange. Plus some of them were my classmates, after all! If it were totally anonymous, though, I think I would've done it, just to look back and giggle.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what really goes on at all-girls colleges. Laughing

I think I may be the most eccentric groomer of this group Laughing

I've gone bald, pruned in hearts and letters. I've glued on jewels and drawn on temp tattoos. My favorite is to dye it fun colors. A tuft of blue can really change an evening! Wink

I suppose I just have a different sort of relationship to my little Georgia O'Keefe!

Please ladies, as if I need to make mine look any bigger Rolling Eyes Laughing

I'm an avid long distance cyclist and, believe it or not, that's the reason I do it.

After a few dozen miles the heat and moisture from all of that rubbing becomes a bother. Before going bald the skin on my groin and around my thighs would become extremely irritated. I would have to baste myself in oil like a turkey on thanksgiving, or powder myself until I was white as a ghost to make that terrible itch and burn to go away. Not any more, and I'm thankful for it. And in the end, I'd like to think my girlfriend likes me for who I am, any way I am.

I've had a year of laser hair removal (SIPL) and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY reccommend it, I never have to worry about it again! I get "down there", lip, underarm done. Beats waxing, hands down.

If there are any Melbourne girls looking for a cheap but fantastic laser therapist, let me know.

OK, I believe you! Very Happy Is it true that after cycling for a long time you are two inches longer? In the leg I mean. Otherwise guys would cycle everywhere and the planet would be saved from global warming Laughing

Well, it's never been called a leg before... Laughing

I actually haven't heard that. Though I've been riding a bicycle for most of my life and my legs are freakishly long (if I were a woman I could be a super-model!) Cycling could very well have something to do with it.

Actually, "third leg" is pretty common slang for a man's naughty bits.

Wow, you sound better and better! Very Happy Apart from the shaving thang Laughing

I've never heard it called a third leg either, though a friend referred to her boyfriend as the tripod as he was apparently spectacularly well endowed Shock

Braun-Epil at Linens and Things last night. Thinking after all the great reviews on MUA. I thought instead of waxing my legs and bikini area, I could use this. BOY I don't know which of you ladies use this, but I could stand the pain...that was not the problem. The problem was the thing CUT the hairs and not pulled them out. So it left stubble marks that were worse than shaving. And bumps to boot that are still there this morning. I wanted it to rip my hair out by the roots, not cut them off into stubble. Where did I or it go wrong. Can anyone reccomend a GREAT electric razor? I am sure I am going to have to tackle my "bush" with an electric razor to get rid of the bulk?

REALLY? I've used mine for years and think I may be due for a new one. I sure hope I get one that rips and not tears!!!

I bought a Braun Silk Epil a month or so ago. The first time through I broke more hairs than ripped them out. I believe it was more my technique. I did short strokes because of the pain...but I find that now that I am able to tolerate it better, longer "ankle to knee" strokes pull out more hair. Because it took me so long to get both legs done (I'd do a section and wait til the next day to keep going) now it's all uneven, so I've got to pull it out every few days or so. I still don't mind. I'm one that has to shave every day...maybe even twice a day!

I'd love to be able to use this on my underarms and bikini, but right now I'm completely satisfied with the shave attachment that came with it...best electric shaver ever! Leaves me smoother than shaving ever did! I find myself slowly doing my bikini area...it just hurts so gosh darn much. But I'm not in a hurry, I use the electric shaver part for my girly region.

I'm 27 and haven't gone "au naturel" since Junior High. Not because of boyfriends (I was a good girl and save myself for marriage...now looking back I should have reconsidered that! Laughing) but because of the heat and humidity where I lived. Working outside it got really hot and sticky, and I never did like wearing tampons during my period so shaving it all off made TTOM and the heat much more bearable.

I can imagine going back to letting it all grow out again.

**Edited to add**
I make Mr. Troika shave his Laughing Took a little convincing but he said himself he's much more comfortable now.

I happen to be a fan of keeping my nether bits short & neatly groomed and have often entertained the idea of going 'brazilian,' but now I'm not so certain! While driving downtown today I happened to catch the end of a news piece on the radio about a woman who almost died from her Brazilian wax job in Toronto. Shock Here is a brief article about her experience and what caused her reactions. BTW, what the article does not say is that the rash was a herpes break-out that was triggered shortly after she was waxed and that this condition developed into a serious (and almost deadly) Staph infection. The poor woman - gives me shivers just thinking about what she must have gone through!!!

Diabetic's Bikini Wax Almost Proves Deadly - Thursday, July 5, 2007

TORONTO -- It's the story of a Brazilian wax that went south, a drive to get rid of the hair down under that nearly cost a young Australian woman her life.

Her doctors say it's also a cautionary tale for other aficionados of the minimalist look -- a warning that maximum depilation can potentially lead to debilitation, especially when it's being performed on someone with a weakened immune system.

"I think the message . . . of this case is just to say: 'Hey guys, you know, we need a bit of a reality check here,' " says Dr. Lindsay Grayson, an infectious diseases specialist with Austin Health and the University of Melbourne.

"This might be fine and mostly pretty innocuous and fun, but for some people, it's not that. It can be quite serious."

The "some people" Grayson refers to are people whose immune systems are weakened -- or compromised, in the language of the medical community. That typically encompasses people with HIV-AIDS, those on immune-suppressing drugs because they've undergone an organ transplant or people receiving cancer therapy. And in this case, it also refers to someone with poorly controlled diabetes.

The person in question is an unidentified 20-year-old Australian woman with Type 1 diabetes -- the kind that requires regular insulin shots -- who underwent a disastrous Brazilian bikini wax. Her physicians report on her startling case in an upcoming issue of the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.

During the waxing procedure, which was performed by a trainee, the woman experienced some vulval bleeding, suggesting tearing of the skin. And in the two weeks after, she developed symptoms of a worsening infection -- pain, swelling, redness and discharge.

By the time she sought medical help, she was reporting excruciating pain, fever, a rash that extended up to the chest and neck and severe difficulty urinating. Examination showed her external genitalia were "grossly swollen." Doctors couldn't do an internal examination because the woman was in too much pain. One was eventually performed after she'd been put under general anesthesia.

Alright, I took the plunge and got a full-on brazilian. No baby step bikini waxes for me, it must be my all or nothing attitude! Laughing
Well, I was totally petrified as I've only been waxed once when I was getting my eyebrows shaped for the first time when I was maybe 16, and it was beyond brutal! I was raw, puffy, pink and itchy-painful for a week! Needless to say, in a sensitive area such as my lady-bits I was terrified of a similar reaction (especially with a 10 hour drive to NYC tomorrow, yikes!)
I found a place that came highly recommended. It was within a hair salon, but I was assured not to be fooled by the no frills surroundings. She was very quick, 15 minutes to do everything (and I mean everything!). She used hot wax and cloth strips. I was scared about the pain since I'm a bit of a weenie, but it didn't hurt at all, similar to plucking my eyebrows.
I agree with what others have said in that it is much cleaner, but I'm not sure if I'm totally sold on the totally bare-as-a-baby look...maybe I'm not used to seeing every nook and cranny, but ahem, it's not quite symmetrical (too much info, i know!). While the pain was a breeze, I'm not sure if I'd get it done again...we'll see what my SO thinks about it though, I'm sure he'll like the surprise!

It's been 5 hours and no redness, itching, puffiness etc. Should I expect an unpleasant reaction tomorrow or am I now in the clear? Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused Laughing Rolling Eyes

I had tried a small patch of shaving, but as I expected, the hair grew back prickly and super prone to ingrowns.

Also, still nothing! I guess my skin is tougher than I thought and the girl who did it was super quick and good! Still not sure if I like it enough to go so extreme though

It's definitely a look that has to grow on you. I wasn't sure myself when I first did it, but eventually the pro's outweighed even the aesthetic con's. To each his own, however.
