IMO, the decision to remove "it" isn't really much different than the decision to keep underarms or legs free of hair ... |

woooowwww.
too much information! now i know who's shaved and who's not!
i don't know... isn't it just too much of a bother in the end? i guess we all invest our time differently. my boyfriend loves the hair down there just as it is, and i feel the same about his. i suppose neither of us are very hairy, but the several times i've experimented with whittling down my pubic hair it has ITCHED like CRAZY. and the one time i was waxed (just shaped) the hair grew back in several days--didn't see the point! are you waxed girls pretty stubbly all the time?
-avalange
ps come to think of it, once my sister did that (well, she left a poof) and i was horrified at the sight of her stubbly bareness--it looked so gross, grosser than the unruly natural look! |

lol This is topic made me laugh. I wax and but don't need to get it done often because....and this is embarrassing but with all the friction you can get with horseback riding, some hair gets rubbed off and I don't think it can grow back!
I think it is important to exfoliate, no matter which method you use. |

That's so true,Skincare. No matter whether you wax, shave, pluck or epilate the key to stopping those ingrown hairs is exfoliation. I find a really good scrub is needed,i do it every two days until regrowth appears. |

Maybe you want to start a new thread on the best way to exfoliate the bikini area? Or should it continue here?
I use Baking Soda with Cetaphil or Fake Bake Body Polish. |

GEE! Baking soda with Cetaphil i'm onto that one... Yes,it's definitely GOT to be something pretty finegrained. I'm currently into Ren's Guerrende Salt Exfoliating Body Balm which i'm really happy with. Also correcting what i was saying earlier, even after regrowth you still have to continue to exfoliate or else those pesky ingrown hairs will appear!!! |

Wild, I use baking soda and cetaphil to cleanse my face nightly, it is a great exfoliation process. I am not sure about using it to exfoliate my "area" to shave, does it sting? Anyway, I took the plunge this weekend (sorry to those reading that make comments about now they know shaves and who doesn't), but boy those who do and made comments about it was wonderful, the jury is still out for me on that one. I can not get used to it. I mean "seeing it", but my BF LOVED IT. said he has never experienced it and absolutely thought it was the best. Well at that point, I did to. Just shaved, as many suggested..worked beautifully. Today after three days it has some stuble. I am afraid to go over it again in fear of ingrown hairs. Everyone has me scared, but my BF said he does not mind the stuble, said he would rather have that than the hair back. Go figure |

You are so right that it could sting. This is what I do. I scrub first, then shave. If your skin is being sensitive, then I scrub the day before, shave the next day and the following day, I scrub again (lightly). And yes, I do exfoliate on regular basis. Afterwards, I apply an unscented moisturizer. On days that that I don't shave or just got waxed, I use AHA 12% moisturizer. That helps also. |

If you're not red or itching like crazy after three days, the worst of the irritation and in-grown hair troubles should be behind you.
Either you have some kind of super non-sensitive skin or you did everything just right. Perhaps you could give us a step-by step of what you did for those who may also be interested in a little "experimentation"?

That's fairly standard procedure and advice that everyone could use, and not just for their nethers. Anyone who experiences redness or irritation when they shave or wax anywhere should keep this in mind. |

Well sure I can give you details on what I did. I am not sure that I did everything right, but maybe I just got lucky. When I shave my bikini area, I get bumps and can get (not all the time) ingrown hairs. Especially if I go over it. So I just followed some of the other ladies cues on here.
I trimed really close with scissiors first. You know, got the bulk. I waxed my bikini area first. Then I got in the shower and allowed the water to really "hit that area" to get the pores open. I used a brand new razor that I soaked in warm water and oil first. Then I used just regular shaving cream and shaved small areas and shaved SLOWLY! I did go over a couple areas twice after reapplying the cream. But those areas were towards the top. I rinsed really good and made sure I did not miss any hairs. I then applied some lotion and a little oil in the lotion. That's it. Like I stated the "delight" of my BF was overwhelming. Of course, I am stubbly now, no ingrown hairs, NO itch. I can see the hair growing out now, I think I am going to try to wax "the top" of the patch tonight. I am not going to even attempt to wax the sensitive areas. Then I will try my shaving method again and see what happens. Hopefully I will continue to get lucky. It is sort of growing on me, and I do love the feel of being clean! I feel more confident. Why is that? I certainly get "more attention now" and I love that too. Hope that helps |

This was BY FAR the most interesting and funny thread I have ever read!! AND I READ THE WHOLE THING!!!
Never even considered doing this until I read this post...maybe I should just start with trimming it? Does that cause it to become very prickly?
Man, how funny would it be if guapagirls pos WAS picked up as a random post for the shopping side ha ha ha ha !!! I laughed for 10 mins after I read that. My DH though i was crazy |

BEST THREAD BY FAR!!
So I'm jumping in too
Both my first husband and my long term "serious" boyfriend in between first husband and now husband were VERY into "baldies" with both we made it a weekly ritual and they did the actual honors. They both did good thorough jobs and enjoyed themselves immensely.
I highly recommend having your partner do the shaving just remember to use a trimmer (just like a beard trimmer) to take the hair down as close to the skin as possible first...let them do that part too Your partner will love doing it and it's a heck of a lot easier than hovering over a mirror yourself! Just think of it as good clean fun
Personally going bald is not for me because after squeezing out a couple of offspring I am not as confident that things in the nether region are quite as lovely as they may have once been (paranoid about that "toe" thing I guess) and hubby has never been interested in the way the goods are displayed one way or the other so now I just use the trimmer all over to about 1/8th inch or even 1/16th inch (low guard on trimmer) which is short enough to feel "clean" and still long enough to feel soft. I use an epilator on the edges (yes all the way to the back) because that is what I use on my legs and underarms as re-growth is sparse and never stubbly. If you are having trouble using an epilator on, or near the goods it is most likely due to not having the hair trimmed first (cannot epilate long hair) and/or not making sure the skin is very taunt before using it. Like waxing it hurts but usually only the first couple of times.
Just had to comment on the tattoo gal on the YouTube link...now THAT had to sting a little
Also, I did see a show on TV where a gal was getting her "toe" fixed because it had torn during childbirth and the "toe" flap was too painful for her to perform her wifely duties so although I am not sure what it says about our society that all the gals under 30 are expected to be totally bare and our vanity has extended to getting out goodies surgically spiffed up, I guess it's not such a bad thing if it benefits your primary relationship which ultimately benefits you.
And isn't this fun? "Baring it all" on this thread...now this folks is real female bonding |

Stepfordwife ...you use an epilator I tried once and decided I was too wussy so I held the skin taut and got guapaboy to do it and dear god I was nearly skinned alive! Never again!
I agree about getting the DH to shave though. Much enjoyableness!
I popped two huge sprogs and tore a little bit as well so I now have asymmetrical toes and I don't care! Only guapaboy normally sees it so I don't care and he loves it so what the hell! |

This topic made me giggle.
I have to admit to being a baldy now for 10 years. I use a venus rasor which is excellent and shave using dove shower cream.
Something important I want to mention, which I learned the hard way. On the front I can shave in both directions. But on the sensitive parts only shave the way the hair grows, including in the groin. The reason I'm saying this is because I once got a cyst and ended up needing minor surgery as by shaving in the opposite direction in those areas I caused an ingrowing hair and eventually a cyst which then burst in my groin. I needed to have my groin 'apple cored' as the doctor called it.
Since that time, I shave all sensitive areas the way the hair grows and all is fine.
As for itching, after a while you don't itch any more and get used to shaving easily/quickly.
Personally I'd never go back to being hairy LOL. I also use baby wipes when using the loo and feel so much fresher now than when I used to have hair. Hubby loves it too which is a bonus
Now I shall go away and blush |

For anyone following my tips and advice, I should probably set the fact straight right away and mention that I'm a gent.
But don't fret! The information is accurate. While our respective man-parts and lady-parts are very much dissimilar, the region is very much the same. Our skins are just as sensitive and the steps we take to shave/wax down there are very similar. From prep to finish to treatment. |

guapagirl glad you and guapaboy are having fun w/this I always thought it was a good intimacy/trust builder in my past relationships where we did it that way.
The epilator does not bother me at all and I am a total weenie when it come to pain...guess I am just used to it? |

OMG, what a helpful thread! I have no sisters, and most of my friends are male, so this has been most informative!
A question. Why almost no mention of depilatories? It scares the bajeebas out of me to think of a razor down there or the pain of waxing there either. I have a depilatory designed for facial use (ie, gentle) which I like; is there some reason I shouldn't try it down under?? tia |
