Hey everyone. First post haha. I'm a 17 yearold male and very concerned with my skin and such. I just did a homemade facial like an hour ago haha! But anyway, should guys really use skincare products made for guys? or is it just as effective to use things made for women? i've never used anything made for "men" but it's because i find mens skincare to be a lot rougher than womens skincare and i dont like that. but i guess my main question is whether or not men's skincare is better for a man's face. haha thanks!

Good question I think certain skincare line labeled as for men only are merely marketing. The most important thing is know your own skin type and needs then find the product that suitable for your skin type.

Hi Seasons! I agree with iaimei, you should just find what works for you. Skincare is skincare, being male of female shouldn't make a difference in what you choose to use, skin type is the determining factor.

I really do think there is not much difference, it is just another form of marketing and trying to get more money for products.
Clinique is a classic example.

Hi SEASONS and welcome to EDS!

I agree with the other girls. Its all how the company markets the product so the "for men" products can be specifically marketed and promoted to the target audience.
I dont think there's much difference between the quality and the ingredients of womens and mens skincare products, so you should use what suits you best rather than just using something cos it says its suitable for men.

some mens line market it by telling consumers that men's skin is different from women's skin. I personally don't think it matters too much as long as you choose the skincare that is right for YOUR skin.

Men and woman's skin is similar in structure although men tend to have more hair and increased oil production.

I also agree with iaimei

I completely agree with what everyone have said. It is all about your skin type and often times it is a matter of experimenting to see which one suits you best. However, I also read somewhere that, in general, men's skin are different from women, that is why men's skin care products tend to be a little bit more concentrated and stronger.

sometimes, I have used decleor's products marketed as men's and find they are quite good. As a rule, I think women's products might be a bit heavy for men (as they do have different skin type).

I give all of the products that I can't use (my face breaks out at the drop of a hat) to my SO. His face looks better than mine! He has even gotten compliments/questions about his face from some of the guys he works with since I've taken him on as my "project". His favorite is Carekate's Super Sonic Aspirin Mask [see DIY thread http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=5981&start=3 *on page 13].

I was looking at my DH's skincare products (Nivea for Men, Neutrogena for Men) and I think the only thing that really differentiates them as products for men, is the smell. They smell like men's aftershave or cologne. He prefers to use these, not because they work better than my products which I've had him try, but because they don't have a feminine smell.

That's my theory too Smile

I personally find a lot of the stuff marketed for men to be ineffective, and very heavy. It feels like your using something, but not necessarily the right stuff for my skin.

I know many male friends who buy stuff for women's skin, simply because there is (a) a lot more of it to choose from and (b) it suits their skin. Each to their own!

I agree with most of what you all say. But I think some skincare products , especially anti-aging stuff, contain Estrogen or estrogen derivative or plant mimincs of estrogen, I guess men should not use these products.

I actually have one question, as cellcosmet has a brand called cellmen specially for men, does it mean men should not use cellcosmet? Or more precisely, does cellcosmet contain Hormone?

Thank you.
