I am absolutely shocked and disgusted about this, especially as I've been a long-standing amazon customer for many years.
Here's the gen and here's what you can do about it if you feel the same way:

Amazon.com Continues to Fight the Bad Fight
For at least two years, Amazon.com has been infamously—and incorrectly—touting its "right" to sell materials promoting illegal animal fighting, blatantly peddling dogfighting videos as well as cockfighting magazines like The Gamecock and The Feathered Warrior. Even the recent storm of publicity about the evils of dogfighting has not deterred the company from profiting from illegal animal fighting.
Amazon.com's persistence is all the more disturbing because it comes after Congress passed legislation making it a felony offense to ship publications containing "commercial speech" for the purpose of promoting or "in any other manner furthering" animal fighting.

I received an e-mail about this yesterday from the Humane Society, and I promptly sent an e-mail to Amazon.com about it. Not only an ethical issue, they are going against the law as well.

| They're citing the First Amendment as their reasoning behind their "right" to sell these publications. I wonder if they'd do the same for child p.ornography magazines? I'm appalled. |

yep, I received this link from the Humane Society and sent Amazon an email to notify them I'm voting with my wallet again and the ballot is being cast AGAINST them. I've been ordering from them for years and the $$ I've spent with them is quite considerable. If enough customers send them a blurb to this effect they may take a look at their marketshare and heed the warning.
A similar outcry stopped OJ Simpsons attempt to make $$ off his notoriety in its tracks. Just because something is allowed under the first amendment doesn't mean it's right. |

I also sent them an e-mail stating I would look elsewhere for my books. They have been sending everyone e-mails claiming it's their right under the first amendment to do so. Are there that many people that want these books? Maybe the Feds should seize their records and just see who's buying the books.  |

I'd really like to see that happen. Then amazon's stubborn and illegal stance would at least prove useful in maybe tracking down and prosecuting those who participate in and encourage such barbarism. |

As distasteful as I find many books and magazines to be, i.e., ------------, publications that promote violence against women, children and animals, I strongly disagree with this notion. In a free society, the government shouldn't have any right to seize records unless a crime has been committed. This publication isn't a legal crime, but it IS a crime of poor taste.
Those of you who still shop at Amazon and object to this, please send them an email and let them know they'll no longer get your business. If enough customers speak out they just may listen. Recent events like OJ and Vick have borne this out. |

If anyone still has a copy of the email amazon sent out about the right to sell this stuff under the First Amendment, please could you copy and paste it here so I can see?
I'm just interested in finding out what they have to say. |
