I've been using this little black Coach leather case that I got at one of their outlet stores years ago, but it no longer does the job. First of all, it has these gaps under the zipper so tubes like mascara and lip gloss slide out really easily, even when it's closed. Second, the size is JUST such that I have a hard time fitting some of my bigger compacts - like my sixteen-shadow Aveda compact. And it doesn't have a mirror, so I have to carry a compact even when I wouldn't want to use the powder in it, which takes up valuable space.
The only thing I really like about it is the shape - it fits nicely into all of my purses. But I think I'm ready for an upgrade - I want a useful makeup bag with good pockets, a good zippered closure, and a good mirror, and that looks pretty to boot. I figure folks on this forum are so careful about their products, some of you also have to be snobs about your makeup cases, right? So pretty please, chime in if you have an indispensable favorite makeup bag that you got (that wasn't a Clinique Bonus freebie, haha, I used one of those for years! Preferably something I can still track down. )
And I should clarify, I'm looking for something that carries just my on-the-go stuff - I tend to always carry mascara, lip stain, concealer, eyedrops, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a comb, plus some tampons and such. My little overstuffed case actually has way more than that crammed in there, of course, but I'd be willing to scale it down to just that for the right bag! My ENTIRE makeup arsenal fills, like, a suitcase.
Oh yeah, here's a pic of my current case, with a regular Sharpie next to it for size comparison:

I never did update this thread, but in case anyone's curious, I finally found an awesome makeup bag at Nordstrom online. Unfortunately, it's no longer available so I can't link to it, but it was a great find.
It was black leather with zebra-print calf hair on the main sides, and it had a snap-close compartment on the outside and two inner pockets, one zippered and one not. It had plenty of room for all my fun cosmetics, which is important since I have a LONG list of stuff I tend to lug around with me.
It doesn't have a mirror, but I carry my Dr. Hauschka powder compact anyway, so I make do. I like that this bag is potentially big, but is a nice flat "envelope" style so it can fit in my smaller purses too as long as I don't cram it too full of stuff!
Anyway, probably no one's interested in my makeup bag except me, haha, but I just figured I'd update in case anyone else was using this thread to find something. I think Nordie's may still have the bag I'm after in their small leather goods dept, or maybe at The Rack. |
