Hi there,
I'm new to your boards - have been reading forums off and on for a few weeks but this is my first post.
I need help fine tuning my skin care regimen and I'm hoping you ladies can help.
My problem is that I read about products then rush out and buy them, not knowing how they interact with other products (like today I just read that copper peptides take away the benefits of a Vitamin C serum?)
Anyway, here's the low down and me and my skin. Any advice is appreciated!
I'm 38 and unfortunately didn't take care of my skin until a few years ago when age started to set in. I'm very fair, with combination skin and gigantic pores throughout my T-Zone. My skin is rough looking. I am getting wrinkles around my eyes (and bags now too I see!) and have a saggy-ish neck. I'd like to correct all of these things as much as I can and firm up as much as possible. I get botox for my laugh lines, but everything else is product.
I wash my face with either MD Formulations or Dermadoctor Wrinkle Revenge in the pm and Dermalogica Clay Cleanser in the a.m.
I jump around with toner. Right now I have Avalon Organics COQ10, then I follow that up with Bioelements Power Peptide mist that I read about in Spalook Magazine.
At night I use Affirm 3x on my face and sometimes neck/dec area. Most recently I've been using Cellex-C Advanced-C neck firming cream and it seems to be working.
In the morning I do a little more.
I recently bought Amatokin and have been using that. It's only been a few weeks but I see no difference.
Previously I used CE Ferulic and really liked the way my skin reacted to it so I'm going to add that back into my routine.
Then I follow up with a B5 gel and moisturizer (both Skin Ceuticals)
I used to use a Skin Ceuticals eye cream, but didn't feel it was doing anything after two bottles. I recently read about Neova Eye Gelee (copper peptide) so I bought that when I bought the Amatokin. It's too early to tell for sure if it's doing anything, but I think maybe it is. I also redid botox last week so there's slight improvement from that.
Whew. Ok, so you can see why I need help! I am using so many products I don't know which may be counter-effective or just downright useless.
The only thing I'd be hard pressed to give up is the CE Ferulic. I feel pretty strongly that it improved my skin. Everything else is replaceable.
I know I'll never look 20 again, but I want to get as close as I can
Thanks for taking the time to read this! |

I tried many different products and brands before. My skin just kept constant, not turning worse.
Then, I used Obagi Nuderm and got much improvements.
But of course, no one product suits all. Hope you will find the best for you soon!! |

Hi andialeigh. Welcome to the forums.
Could you tell us a bit more about your skin - whether it is normal, dry, oily or combination and whether you are allergic to anything?
I believe with the Copper Peptides and Vit C you can use one in the morning (pref Vit C) and the other at night. |

I'm not allergic to anything, but I did describe my skin in my original post:

i would advise you to start using a sunscreen, stat. that's probably the most effective way to forestall future aging. you might want to look into aha's or epidermx for your pores, which some people have had success with. otherwise i'd actually say your routine looks pretty good! hopefully these posts will be able to help you out. |

Hi Andialeigh, I didn't see you mention any exfoliatants used in your current regimen? Maybe you could consider using an AHA/BHA combo exfoliatants, that will especially help your oily T-zone and better prepare your skin to all the actives you add on. |

Thanks! The cleanser and Affirm are both exfoliants - will another be too much? |

Hi, andialeigh, welcome to the forum.
I was like you that I had only started to know how to take care of my skin in my late 30s. I am 40 now and only in the very recent year that I think ve found some ways to improve my skin and to slow down the aging process, of course after much trials and errors with so many products, may be hundred of them!
I am not into Botox or fillers at all. Right now, my staple has been using Perfect Complexion 's peeling products , PSF and NCN'S enzyme peels to get rid of the fine lines. To me, these are most essential as the corner stone in improving skin. I use Vivier Vitamin C 20 and IS CLINICAL's products (nearly all of them)as my daily regime in taking care of the new skin from peeling. And not forgotten, I do masks every days.
I am quite happy with my skin at the moment, seeing the improvement in lines and definitely much younger with radiance. |
