Hi Smile

Can some of the retin a users out there tell me if you use it directly under the eyes? And what effect its had.

Im asking because it seems like its making my lines there worse. The skin feels a bit looser even. Ive been using it for about 6 months. 3-4 nights per week.

I did a google search and came across this quote from someone on a thread

'Don't put the RetinA on your lower eyelids (right below your eye)...it will make the area look much worse (wrinkle and crepiness-wise) and my ophthalmologist said to try to avoid that area. The outer eye (crow's feet) area is fine, though. The undereye skin is very thin to begin with, and because RetinA tends to increase the 'sloughing off' of the dead skin cells faster than normal, the underneath doesn't regenerate quite as quickly and you end up with even thinner skin which is more susceptible to damage.'

Im starting to wonder if im doing more harm than good! Disappointing though as I thought retin a would be the one of the best things for under eye wrinkles.

Im inclined to stop putting it there though as the skin there is starting to feel less firm Sad

cillakat and tetrakis on makeupalley have addressed this issue--as far as i can recall, it's because the eye area is more delicate, and it's much easier to upset the barrier function in that area. if you go to the mua board and search "barrier function" you'll find a lot of ways to help restore it (mostly by adding lipid-based moisturizers). good luck!

Thanks:)

I think I might go back to vitamin c for eye area. I had pretty good results when I used it awhile ago.

Well I just did a search on MUA and seems alot of people freak out when this happens but its normal.

I might either switch to Avene Eluage there or just buffer my retin a and use it less around the eyes.

Just seems strange its only happening now after 6 months?
