I know there has been a discussion on this before, but I can't find it...so....here goes: I am getting frustrating with how discolored the necklines of my blouses/tops are getting from my sunscreen...particularly the lighter colored, white and off-white tops I have. I use one of two sunscreens on my neck and upper chest, either Anthelios Dermo Pediatric or Sunbrella by Jason which is a mineral based Physical Sunblock. Is there a good strong sunscreen that won't ruin my clothes or does anyone know a way to remove the stains??? |

Oh, that's frustrating! A lot of the physical sunblocks I used were titanium dioxide-based, and in order to avoid the whitish cast associated with that ingredient, the formulations contained iron oxides which would stain lighter shirts just like you said.
But then I discovered all these great micronized zinc oxide formulations, that go on nearly clear (i.e. no white cast AND no tan stains), and offer better UVA protection to boot. I'm such a product-jumper that I couldn't possibly list all of them, but here are the two formulations that I'm currently using and loving:
Devita Solar Protection Creme 30 - this stuff is totally transparent, but I'm a teensy bit paranoid that it doesn't offer up enough protection. If I'm going to be in really harsh sunlight, I'll dust some Peter Thomas Roth Mineral Powder Sunsreen (also SPF 30) on top. This stuff is so clear that you seriously can't see it when it rubs off on any clothing at all - like I said, that freaks me out that it might not cover well enough, but I've worn it and not gotten any burn or sun damage, so for what it's worth, I love the stuff. Also, it contains rhatany root extract, which they claim helps with UV protection - I'm a bit skeptical, but someone on EDS kindly pointed me towards the one credible study that shows rhatany as having this property, so who knows, maybe it really does help!
MyChelle Sun Shield SPF 28 - this stuff is meant for the face, but I wind up using it more on my body as it's relatively inexpensive and offers up good protection with a better texture than most physical sunblocks, IMO. It has a teensy bit of TiDO so it has a hint of whitish cast when you first apply it, but it goes away pretty quickly. This one WILL leave whitish marks on dark clothing, but not nearly as much as other physical formulas, and it washes out.
Hope this helps! |

I buy mine at a natural market here, but it's the only distributor in my entire state (!) so I'm not surprised you have to buy it online - it doesn't seem to have great representation. |
