I heard that too oily = clogging pores can cause large pores. Howver my beauty consultant said skin too dry are the main reason causing large pores! So which reason is correct one? Since I want to choose the right product to correct my pores size, but I am thinking if the reason is too oily, I can use BHA. If the reason is too dry, I choose hydrating mask!

Or the reason of large pores are Ages? My pores size also follow my ages?

Hi carforum, I believe it is in fact possible to have dry skin and large pores, although I'm entirely not sure it's the "main reason"... the biggest culprit would be genetics. Smile

Lots of things can cause large pores, from experience having oily skin will definitely cause areas in the t-zone to become more porous. But again there are people who have normal skin and no other issues but very porous skin, could be genetic too. Any extreme conditions on the skin will cause skin texture to change.

I think pores appear large when they become clogged with make-up, sebum and dirt.

I would say choose something with a BHA. A hydrating maask won't help minimize pores. Oily skin and age cause large pores; dry skin causes small pore size.

Thanks for all reply. I ask this question because recently my beauty consultant ask me to do more hydrating mask if I want to minimize my pore size. So her theory is that
while skin are too dry, not moisture enough, skin will try to secrete more oil to protect the skin! She said this is the main reason to cause large pores

I guess it's true that your skin'll secrete more oil if your skin is too dry. So regular use of a hydrating mask is a must, possibly 1-2x a week. When your skin is hydrated, pores do look smaller too.

Well, my pores have only started to enlarge now. I believe it is an age thing, due to hormonal changes - in my case anyway.

Oily skin usually has large pores and the pores will sometimes stretch as you age due to loss of collagen and elasticity in the skin structure. Dry skin typs mainly have smaller tighter pores. You can be oily underneath but have a layer of dry skin at the surface which is usually a sign of your skin being dehydrated.
Maybe using a BHA to get rid of the top layer of dry skin and applying an oil free moisturizer
after would help.

Although fairly new to the forum, I'd first suspect clogged pores, with sebum, dead skin cells, or just dirt as the first culprit.

I've been working on my husband's back, who has large pores and his face, and although he has really, really dry skin, he has very clogged pores. Each time I squeeze various matter comes out.

Also some pores are larger than others, and will always tend to accumulate dirt and oil routinely.

I would recommend, a good cleansing and exfoliating routine, CPs, with occasional extractions from a professional. Skin Bio has some great products, DY, IFP are the ones folks here have had a lot of success with (including myself).

I only have large pores on my nose, which is the oiliest area of my face. So I think my reason is oily skin.
