Don't you think at this price it would be more cost-efficient to have some decent cosmetic surgery or else have a facial at a reputable spa every couple of weeks for the cost? At a recent review of cosmetics and anti-aging products by leading dermatologists, the conclusion was: don't get roped into spending lots of money, get a good moisturiser and avoid the sun. You could go on a very decent holiday at a day spa with all the trimmings for a jar of that stuff. |

No way would I donate $2,100 to the Lauder Group to pay for Carolyn Murphy’s multi-million contract or Aerin Lauder’s latest Hermes handbag. Nothing personal against Aerin or Carolyn, in fact I think Carolyn is quite gorgeous, but I’d rather buy the Hermes handbag for myself, thank you! |

That's crazy. I like the original Cdlm, but I don't use anything else from the La Mer line. |

Could you post the ingredients? I'm just curious to see what they've got in that stuff that would make it so expensive |

If I'm not allowed to copy and paste from Pauls's web site please delete this.
Here's some info that I found from Paula Begoun's Beauty Bulletin June 15/06
Seaweed extract is the primary ingredient in this nonaqueous serum but which type of seaweed is unknown (there are endless types of possible seaweed extracts) so there is no way to evaluate its benefit for skin. Actually, I wonder how the FDA lets Lauder get around this generalized ingredient identification because it is definitely not part of the regulation. This product also contains silicones, emollients, more seaweed (the type is listed for this one), ingredients that mimic the structure of skin, an assortment of antioxidants, a tiny amount of niacin (in the form of vitamin B that can cause flushing, which is actually a problem for skin), and acetyl hexapeptide-3. This last is the ingredient that’s supposed to work like Botox, but of course it can’t; even Botox can’t work like Botox when applied topically to skin.
And just in case you weren’t sure the product was doing anything for your skin, they included a few irritating, skin-tingling plant extracts, including eucalyptus, lime, and citronella, to create the impression that it is doing something on your face. For this kind of money it should be doing something, but exactly what that is can’t be ascertained. Lauder has no published studies and offers no clinical evidence (other than press releases, which fashion magazines use as if they were factual information) to support the value of the product or the efficacy of the claims.
Along with seaweed, The Essence also contains an assortment of yeast extracts, saccharomyces lysate, micrococcus lysate, artemisa extract, and bifida ferment lysate. But whether or not seaweed or yeast in any form can affect wrinkles is still not known. Indeed, it is something ingredient manufacturers claim, but it is not supported by published or substantiated double-blind studies showing this to be true. Research from ingredient manufacturers is interesting, but obviously self-serving; somehow all their ingredients are always miracles. Trying to find independent research about these substances is difficult, and what does exist involves in vitro or animal studies (Sources: Journal of Burn Care and Rehabilitation, March–April 1999, pages 155–162; and Wound Repair and Regeneration, January 2002, page 3. |

I always have new findings about the "most expensive" skin care products. I just don't know what they can do to my skin... are they going to change my skin like in one minute?

I would rather spend it living, too.
Or give it to charity if I had so much disposable income that I was vulnerable to spending it ridiculously. |

Sure these super expensive skin care products work Jira! They work at bringing in outrageous profits for the company that creates and markets them! Once people find out they DON'T do anything magical, the companies have already reaped huge profits from all the "first time" buyers and don't really care if they get repeat business for that product. That is a typical "big cosmetic house" plan of action. Then they introduce new products at high prices and keep the cycle going. There is no way these products should cost that much. I'm familiar with raw material prices in this industry and NOTHING is that expensive to create that retail price...NOTHING.
That tactic is EXACTLY what I'm going to fight with my Never Over The Hill cosmetic company. I'm going to use quality ingredients in quality products at very low prices and try to keep repeat business. It's the best way to go I think, for everyone involved. |

I buy sea kelp sea emolliant from NCN skincare. It's only $25.00 dollars and I put in my moisturizer and shampoo. That's crazy to spend that much money. I agree if I'm going to spend money like that then I'll look into plastic surgery. |

INSANE!
I tried a sample of La mer. I didn't like the texture or the smell and my skin did not absorb it well. |

Yes, I could not be more agree on what John Hill said on large cosmetic company 's marketing strategy banking in on their name but (my quote) at the expense of Human's weakness that "expensive is better". |

I agree with John - the more it costs does not necessarily equate with quality and effectiveness. I bought the jurlique neck serum at some ridiculously exorbitant price only to find myself gagging everytime I put it on because it smelt like vomit and/or off-orange juice! Ended up giving it away - was told the smell was due to the mirrh component which is really, really expensive. Completely off the topic is my reaction to truffles - they are disgusting (like totally concentrated mushrooms) and I can't see what the rave is about, would rather pay top dollar for a beautiful slab of wagyu steak done medium rare..... |
