When i was living in Canada my mum sent me some of my things from back home(nz). This included some of my jewellery i had left behind. When the package arrived i was shocked to find i was expected to pay $90 tax on the jewellery even though it was already mine .
I learned not to state the true value of products when sending them internationally in the future.
I wonder if you have been charged tax/duty and that is the extra cost?
as for th other package not arriving...maybe it will come soon...if not it sounds a bit dodgy

It is just purely luck as to whether you pay for the VAT. I have received several packages from the US and EDS and they were fine. But then there are times, when it gets held up at customs.
Delivery usually takes a week, so when it takes more than a week then I know that I will receive a card through the post telling me I have to pay custom taxes.
I was kinda shocked the first time I was charged, but when I went to the website which I bought from, in the smallprints there is something along the lines that the customer is liable for the taxes.
If you are buying from an individual e.g. ebay then you can ask the seller to mark down the price on the customs declaration form. Companies dont do this though.
