I have been "lurking" for a couple of weeks and you find folks really know your stuff. I am 33 yr old female with extremely oily skin and clogged pores on my cheeks. I break out with anything that has silicone. I recently purchased Glytone mild cleasing gel and Glytone lotion 2. I was wondering if I also need a light moisturizer since peeling seems to be an initial effect with beginning glycolic treatments. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. I have tried the following moisturizers with either clogged pores or tiny bumps as the result.
Oil of Olay Complete(clogged pores)
Biopur Meling Matifying (clogged pores & tiny bumps)
St. Ives Oil Free(clogged pores)
Thank in advance for all your help.

hi there new scout
I have a similar skin type to yours. A lot of people with our skin type dont seem to realise that moisturisation is really important, because dehydration of the skin cells only exacerbates the ageing process. If you after a light moisturiser id recommend either of these three:
1. Dermalogica's Active Moist
2. Yonka's Creme 15 or Creme PG
3. Decleor's Fluid Hydra Mat Regualator
I have no idea what your budget is (it would have to be high given those recommendations ). You ideally need as you suggest, a light moisturiser which contains non-comedogenic ingredients (non-clogging ingredients). All of the above are light, and are non-comedogenic - they wont exacerbate your breakouts or wont clog your pores. I have used them myself and I think 1 and 2 are probably my faves - both leave my skin silky smooth, have not clogged my skin, and assist really heal my breakouts when I experience a flare.
Id do some research before you purchase your moisturiser, it always nice to get a 'feel' for the brand before you go for it. Check out dermalogica.com, decleor.com and yonka.com, and see which one takes your fancy.
Its important to note that when you purchase your moisturiser, or any other skincare item for that matter, by far the most important thing is the ingredients (not whether the packaging is pretty or whether it comes witha free bag! ). Look for plant extracts and plant essential oils, because these are ingredients that will heal your skin. By the same token, avoid products that contain stearates or lanolin. These skincare items are usually more expensive, but in my experience are well worth the extra.
I hope you find this information useful. Im by no means a skincare expert (id have to point you in Mabsy's direction for that!! ) but i think i know enough about quite a few brands and the right ingredients to point you in the right direction.
Warmest regards

Thanks for the tips, I am really looking into dermalogica. As far as price, well, I don't think I will be purchasing la prairie or anything like that. I don't mind spending 30-40 bucks on something that will work. Just not something say 175 dollars. Can't do that!lol Thanks again!!! |

Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer with UVA/UVB protectants is the way to go! I have a hard time looking for a fine moisturizer myself because i often break out with its use. I thought i was a hopeless case with mositurizers. Then i tried Aveeno. Its the only moisturizer i don't break out! It also has this what they call light diffusers that gives u natural shimmery matte skin. It also evens out your skin tone. It's really good! Plus, you could use it as a daily sunblock being broad-spectrum with SPF15. |

Hi,
Just posted a reply to you inquiry on the other board. It sounds like you should really try the Cream 15 & Juvenil. These will not irrate your skin and work great for the problems you are having. |
