There is a layer of mold in my houseplant. Any ideas why this would happen?? |

My guess is one or a combination of 3. overwatering, plastic pot, lack of drainage.
I've experienced this when using plastic pots, which is why I lean toward terra cotta pots. I line the bottom of the pot with broken pieces of terra cotta [to provide drainage] before filling up with potting soil. Then I place the pot on a terra cotta tray and water.
HTH!

Is it on the plant itself? That could be a fungus called powdery mildew.
If it's on the dirt, it's usually because the soil is kept too damp.
And sometimes moss grows on the soil - not necessarily a bad thing.

One further suggestion is that there is insufficient air circulation around the plant. |

Thank you for your input. I have both plastic and terra cotta pots, and there is now mold in all of them. I did give all the plants a real good soak a week or so ago. Guess that was not a good idea.
Thanks!!! |
