OK, so maybe it's not so new, but it was new to me!!
So I'm walking in the traditional market here in Taiwan, and I see, a vegetable that I generally don't buy, actually, one that I've never bought in my life. I decided to buy it, and that became part of dinner!!
Upon research, I found out just how good this vege was for you; and this morning.. WOW!!! Over 2lbs of me went down the toilet, along with hundreds of gallstones!!
Magic vegetable??
OKRA.. raw Okra.
So, let me go over my dinner with you all:
1) ***Edited out because we don't discuss/advocate meat here*** (OP, please see the Mission Statement and Rules for Posting)
2) A plate of Okra (I ate about 20 of them) washed really well, and eaten raw.
3) Kim Chi (yes, as in the smelly Korean pickled cabbage)
4) ***Edited out because we don't discuss/advocate dairy here*** (OP, please see the Mission Statement and Rules for Posting)
Okra is high in bulk fiber, and the sticky stuff, lubes up the colon so as to facilitate the "exodus" out of the colon and into the toilet. The sticky stuff also is like a bacteria's paradise, and helps to facilitate friendly flora growth in a BIG way. Kim Chi has about 4-6x the acidophillous vs Yogurt. So eat your Kim Chi! I probably would have thrown some sea kelp in there for good measure, oh well.
Okra also controls blood sugar really well, so all you diabetes people, eat your Okra! Raw is best, otherwise, steam or quick blanch.
1. Further contributing to the health of the intestinal tract, okra fiber (as well as flax and psyllium) has no equal among fibers for feeding the good bacteria (probiotics).
2. To retain most of okra's nutrients and self-digesting enzymes, it should be cooked as little as possible, e.g. with low heat or lightly steamed. Some eat it raw. However, if one is going to fry it (and it is undeniably delicious prepared that way when rolled in cornmeal and salt), only extra virgin olive oil, or UNREFINED coconut butter is recommended .
Anyway, 7am this morning, My colon let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it had to go.. (So folks, make sure the bathroom is available, and try this on a weekend, not a weekday like I did!!)
2lbs + 200 Gallstones + 30 minutes later; I walked out of the bathroom bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, feeling my skin glowing all over, and my colon having a clean "I just used some Draino on it" type of feeling..
Okra is fairly safe as far as I know, and probably easy to get and very cheap.
Just be fore-warned!! You will pass gas, mucus-plactoid, gallstones, bile juice, and all sorts of other nasty stuff that is really REALLY disgusting, but will make you feel 100x better after you pass all of it out. Winter is coming, and for those who get Winter itch, I highly recommend doing a "Okra" cleanse.
Do get some friendly bacteria in with your Okra, the more the better. I feel amazing right now!!
Just had my 9th bathroom run in-between typing this.
Make sure you drink plenty of water!! You will feel a little tired from the detox process, but after you pass most of it out, you'll feel vibrant!
I am not a doctor, so please don't ask me if this is "safe" for you. But thus far, it is difficult for me to imagine that eating Okra would be harmful. Also, it's really bulk fiberous, and you probably can't eat enough to get sick..
I hope people try this and give some feedback!! 2 platefuls of Okra cost me $1!!! I couldn't get this kind of results so cheap!! |

This is very interesting... I've never seen okra in stores here unless it's frozen and of course good luck with the 'kim chi' that'll be the day - the middle of nowhere Canada has that available. I will keep my eyes open tho since this could be something to add to my husband's routine.
Can you explain the bit about consuming meat and dairy being edited out of your post. I couldn't find any stipulations on that when checking the rules and regulations area under guidelines and am a bit confused. |

Amazing.......I live in southern USA and have eaten okra fresh from the garden every summer of my life, fried, boiled, alone or in soup, pickled and any other way it can be prepared, and have never, nor has anyone else I know, experienced any of the Draino-like effects you describe, and it doesn't give me gas....... |

yeah, tasha,
you experiment with your colon so frequently, i would not be surprised if your bombastic results are due to colonic instability and not some magical powers of okra. i'm sure it is good for you, but in moderation, as with everything else!
what's the deal with feeling amazing and great if you are having to go to the bathroom 9x in a row, voiding all that nasty stuff? that's not at all pleasant...

Go Tasha! (And I hope I go just like her after I eat all that raw okra).
Yeah, I know colon cleansing doesn't sound very appetizing or refreshing to most people, but most people don't have major traffic jams in that area -- or the skin eruptions that often accompany them.
For those that do, evacuating completely can be a revelation!
(and of course, the combination of aging and the Standard American Diet (SAD) makes matters worse. Supposedly, the average autopsy uncovers traffic 20-plus pounds of impacted, age-old plaque and other matter lining the colon).
Can't wait to lighten up, myself. |

Yes, that's confusing the heck out of me too. Why aren't we allowed to mention meat or dairy products? I'm assuming that would preclude us from asking for a cheesecake recipe or a meat pie recipe, for instance in the Lounge area? It just seems rather bizarre to me. |

I know tasha contributes to another forum that is health-related, maybe she cut and pasted her post for EDS? I cannot imagine why EDS would be so adamant about meat and dairy. I mean, I've certainly posted about them before, as they are my passions.
There's only one way to try:
MMM, I love this french goat cheese called "le chevrot." It's delicious, and best eaten with a salad of arugula dressed lightly with orange olive oil (not flavored, but oranges and olives pressed together), lemon, and sea salt and pepper. maybe a couple of walnuts...
Paired with an organic dry-aged rib-eye steak, it's an excellent and healthy (tho not by some standards) meal.

This whole thing seems very strange to me, common sense says that if you are constipated eating anything with fiber, like okra, salad or any veggie/fruit for that matter, you are gonna poop----a lot. Just like what happens with your morning cup of coffee, it stimulates your bowels. While I don't think that doing a mild detox or fast is unhealthy, constantly forcing your body to unnaturally eliminate "waste" seems like it could potentially be harmful. Just as much as binging on unhealthy foods, etc. IMO they are both extremes. I'm no doctor but I would think that if you are passing that many gallstones you have a underlying problem that should be look at by a medical doctor. My point is, with a healthy diet and lifestyle I think these kind of measures are unnecessary at this extreme and may do more harm than good, bodies are smart and when treated well will function as they are suppose to, without this kind of um, uncomfortable interference. |

Thank you catballou, avalange and vonstella for injecting some common sense in an otherwise questionable thread. The body is pretty smart and as long as you're eating a well balanced diet full with fiber, yogurt, protein, fruits and veggies, extreme tactics like this simply are not necessary. |

This is a joke right? Where in the guidelines does it say you can't discuss eating meat or dairy here? Does that include milk chocolate? ice cream? Mozzarella on pizzas?
If animal by products are off the menu so to speak, where does that leave the emu oil and stuff made out of foreskins that are sold in eds? |

Hi I am a new member and would like to make a quick comment to the okra/liver/colon cleanse.
First let me start by saying I am a Holistic Health Practioner,(12 years) and a PhD Intergrative Medicine, and although each of you is somewhat correct there is a real method to this madness of to cleanse or not to cleanse.
The skin is the largest eliminator of the 6 channels. The liver is the largest detox organ of the body and the 2 work in direct correlation with each other (thanks to the divine instruction of the body) If the skin did not take things to the surface so to speak then the body (internally would suffer).
Yes eating a healthy diet and a variety is paramount (let you food be your medicine and your medicine be your food). But just as it is with all these products so it is with food, we all have unique needs. But it is not enough, in this day and age on any given day in just about any society we are breathing, consuming and applying more than 5,000 pollutants.
ALL real beauty starts from the inside!!!! We truely are what we eat, breath, drink and these days cleanse!!
Your blood PH is the most important aspect of the body. So what you put in your body and on your body is PARAMOUNT!!
But none of us is perfect and we all have vices (or at least I do)!! So cleansing my body and helping it along in its daunting task is a real beauty secret in and of itself.
You can not just do it by a good diet. It just isn't enough anymore unfortunately.
Liver cleansing, colon cleansing they should both be high on the list if you want REAL anti-aging results. They are cheap and well worth the (as one of you I think put it nuisance)!! Going to the restroom 3 or more time a day to expel debris from your body is a GOD send in every sense of the word for lasting ageless skin. Technically (not to gross anyone out here)you should have a bowel movement 2-3 times a day or at least the accumulated amount should be 3 feet. The colon and the skin are directly connected in every study of natural medicine and if you don't get it out of the colon it is coming thru the skin. Simply put if the colon is not clean you can not absorb the vitamins and minerals; and your skin, hair and nails will pay because they are the last on the importance scale for receiving nutrients.
So to those of you who are using okra (an age old cleanser for the colon and liver) keep up the good work. There are much more complete ways of cleansing when you are ready.
Hope this was encouraging to those that are on this track and, curious. AND I hope I didn't offend anyone who disagrees.
