I'm heading to the city next week and I was going to get my niece some stuff from the Body Shop for Christmas and some Shea Lip Butter for me.
From my understanding the products are supposed to be free of junk - Is this true?
Also, does the Shea Lip Butter actually have real Shea in it? |

If you head over to the Body Shop website they have ingredient lists for all their products. In the case of the Lip Butter it lists "Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)" as it's first ingredient. |

Body Shop is not free of junk. There are colorings, fragrances, thickeners and preservatives in the products. If that is not a concern then they have some nicely priced stuff to try. I love the Body Butters but they are not pure and I love the Hemp lip balm. I found the staff the last few years to be really pushy especially about their discount card and ill informed about how some ingredients work. That is not really their fault as its the training.
I like LUSH as they are mostly natural. They still have colorings, fragrances and preservatives and synthetic ingredients but they label everything so I can pick out the most natural stuff. Most of the products come in solid form so they dont need preserving and no packaging. The staff is very well trained so they can answer any concerns. You just have to pick and choose if you are concerned about synthetics.
The best bet is the homemade stuff found at craft fairs where you can talk to the crafter about their products. Beware anytime you have a liquid product, a preservative is needed. |

Thank you this was very helpful. I don't think I'm going to be buying their lip balm. My hunt continues for a real Shea Lip Balm. |

There's a Japanese brand, Fancl which is supposedly free of preservatives. It should be availabe in US because they have US website. |

Northern Girl--- this won't help you before your trip unfortunately, however, I think the balms at Shea Terra Organics might be just what you've been looking for:

I dont know how close this place is to Winnipeg but you might check outwww.thepureboutique.com
I like the foundations and the lipglosses are nice though I picked the ones that were too shimmery for my tasters. Smells great and covers well without the greasy glossy look. New lipsticks launching soon though. The owner was very nice to deal with. |

Try http://www.alaffia.com/ -- that's a great shea company. I've never tried their lip stuff, but I like the company's MO and ingredient lists.
And the Body Shop is SO not free of junk anymore! They used to be somewhat better, but they've really gone downhill IMO. Sad to see it, but it happens to tons of good brands. |

If you want more natural products, I highly recommend Earth to Body products (especially the Emu Soap and the Clay-Neem Treatment).
