Hi Ladies,
Fall and cool weather is getting off to a late start here in Southern California. I bought a killer pair of beautiful boots last fall, but can't wear them too often because of the 3" heel; now I"m looking for a low-heeled, everyday pair of boots. I'm really lemming over a pair of the Frye Harness Boots 8R W but they're awful spendy. See this picture, see how lovely they are? http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/101192/c/20.html
Does anyone have any suggestions for similar boots with the same style but for less $$?
TIA!
Athena |

Oooh Vonstella, those are lovely! You're not helping me save $$ you're enabling me and now you're making me want another pair of Frye boots! http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/28483669/c/616.html
BTW have you ever purchased from Zappo's? I like their free shipping and no hassle return policy. |

Oooo those are cute! Sorry! You can be comforted by knowing Frye's are so worth the money, their boots last forever. Ive never ordered from Zappos but they have a great track record from what I hear. Do let us know what you get! |

Athena,
Have you looked at this site. I saw it listed on one of my fashion newsletters. I'm more a high heel girl but there are some very nice boots here and they do carry Frye.

Hi Blues, I took a look at the Ropers - I'm looking for something slightly clunky but them be a little too clunky --- Wow, bootbarn has pretty good prices, comparable to Zappo's! Thanks for the link!
I've been checking out some of the Harley boots as well. Found a few and they're slightly lower in price than the Frye. I was mighty tempted to purchase a pair on ebay but since I've heard Frye boots tend to run 1/2 size to a size too large, decided I better stick to a source with a liberal return policy in case they don't fit.
I think I have my heart set on the Frye harness boots, perfect fit for jeans, plaid skirts with black nylons and everything else. Think you girls just helped me talk myself into it I mean after all boots are an investment, aren't they? grrr.... |

I had used zappos many times, never a problem. Very reliable, shoes arrive next day, if returned - credit processed immediately.
Their prices are not the best, but the selection is quite good.
HTH,
Lucy. |

Ooooo I love these...I actually ordered a pair off eBay. The leather is SOOOO soft. I had to return them though it didn't fit my left foot! Argh...so disappointed! |

Hey Athena - There are a couple pairs of chunky low-heeled boots at Victoria's Secret that might interest you (price range $88-$129). Check out style #214-256 (pg-14) and #204-494 (pg-15) in the shoe section -www.victoriassecret.com |

If you can find Naturalizer Auburn boots, I highly recommend them. They aren't made anymore but sometimes I can track a pair down. They are sooo comfortable and sturdy, and I am so sad my original pair got destroyed in a flood. |

Thank you all so much for your suggestions, I knew you'd come up with some good ones! Oh noooo, I found another pair of adorable Frye Oxford booties they're so cute but they're 3 inch heels...I'm doomed to fall in love with 3 inch heels... http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7280549/c/325.html
puglove, do you mind posting or PMing me with the name of the ebay seller you bought from? Were you given the option to return them because they didn't fit?
scotts, thanks for the link. You know I looked at those but then opted against them. The suede thing, you know. So hard to keep suede looking nice.
tjs and cedar, it's great to hear about your good experience with zappos. |

Hey athena...yep. Her policy was that if the buyer was unsatisified for whatever reason...even if they didn't fit, she'd take them back. She's SO easy to deal with and quite nice. Her eBay name is ranchwife2000. Its a clearance outlet, so she doesn't have ALL styles and sizes. Good luck |

I hear ya! Like anything though, I think it depends on the quality & grade of suede used when it comes to keeping suede boots clean. I bought a gorgeous pair of suede harness boots years ago during a trip to Buenos Aires, and they wore exceptionally well (and I was quite hard on them!). If you change your mind about suede, I came across this interesting pair of new suede Frye boots on ebay. They have a stacked 1 1/2 boot heel as well as a decent price tag.

Thanks Scotts oooh those ARE beautiful are these the same kind you purchased? Something like that could make me change my mind about suede after all! BTW, I wound up finding my perfect pair of boots yesterday at Nordstrom's Rack. They were the last ones in my size.
Before I hit Nordstrom's Rack, I went to Nordstrom's to try on a few pairs. The classic harness boot in brown and black is quite stiff and clunky. I was disappointed, didn't like the way they fit or looked at all. I've heard these boots tend to run between 1/2 size to full large and found this to be true. Then I went to Nordstrom's Rack and found a pair of golden leather Frye's in size 8 for only $69 USD! I tried them on, expecting to be disappointed but the antiqued golden leather is much softer than the brown or black, I don't know why. They were more comfy, less clunky and looked great whether I tucked my jeans into the boot or over the boot, woohoo perfect pair of everyday boots! Sigh, the Santa Ana winds are back in SoCal, so it's still too warm to wear them. Here's a pic if you wanna see how lovely they are!

OK, so I found my perfect boots but this has been an interesting thread. Ladies, please post links with YOUR favorite boots! |

WOW!!! You are a lucky girl Athena - your new boots are beautiful and talk about a fantastic deal! I love the bargains you can find at Nordstroms Rack in California and hit several locations during my trip to SanFran and LA earlier this year <sighing with fond memories>.
The suede harness boots that I purchased in Buenos Aires were a lovely light brown and had more stitching details on the top of the foot as well as an ankle strap with buckle. I paid $125 for them 13 years ago (which was the most I had EVER paid for a pair of western boots in my life!), but every dollar was well worth it. Not only were they gorgeous to look at, but they were insanely comfortable and the quality was so amazing that I wore them for a good 10 years before retiring them for good.
I am certain you will wear your new jean boots for many years as well...they are truly lovely so enjoy them the moment it becomes cool enough! |

Since you want to keep your thread going Athena, I'll share a pic of my newly acquired Tahari stretch knee boots. I purchased these babies to go with a new turtleneck tunic dress and was thrilled to pay only $59.99 CDN for the pair. Though the heel is higher than I initially wanted, they are still remarkably comfortable and look crazy-sexy on! The stretch fabric also prevents my calfs from becoming too warm, which was a feature I wanted in order to wear them all day long with any outfit (and also not be forced to wait for the temp's to drop! ). I'm loving these swanky boots so much right now!!!

Whoohoo, it was finally cool enough to wear my new boots this weekend! Went to Oak Glen [little town east of LA reknowned for their apple orchards!] I felt soooo invincible with these beautiful boots!
Scotts, those ARE crazy sexy boots I'd be afraid to try and walk on such high stilleto heels! But they're lovely!
Ooh anomaly, I was looking at those tough looking engineer boots as well they're so kicka$$! You'll rock with those on, and wear them for years!
Ahh, I love fall! |

I saw some gorgeous knee high missoni boots on zappos and was agonising for months about getting them! I was not sure about the site. Now thanks to this thread I have got the bug again. |
