I read somewhere that it was really important to have a good quality night cream. What do you think do we need different creams in the day to night? Or is it just a marketing ploy to get us to buy more creams? Or is there some science behind it?
If so can anyone recommend a good night cream for combination skin? |

Good question. I've been wondering about the exact same thing!
So far I've been using my daycream on top of decleor neroli oil at night. I recently had a facial and my esthetician never mentiond anything about me needing any special night cream.
I have dehydrated normal/combo skin. At the time I'm using Eucerin hydra-protect. Very nice and reasonably priced moisuriser. I also like Babors combination 24h cream. In addition I use decleors neroli oil at night. |

To be honest, I dont know the answer to this either...I've been using the Vitaroma Emulsion during the day and the Vitaroma cream in the jar at night as its a bit heavier...I normally use my masks and essential balm at night.. |

hi guys
ive had some thoughts on this. i suppose it seems pretty obvious but i think the day/night cream distinction exists because we show off our faces during the day...and therefore dont want something heavy/greasy or something with a weird texture - regardless of the benefit..whereas nights, when no one sees you (or you dont really care what you look like) are reserved for more intense treatments, and manufacturers are less concerned about what the textures of the products are like, more on the efficacy of the product.
i suppose a good example would be decleors day creams versus the night balms - you wouldnt dream of putting the balms on during the day - even though you know what theyre capable of during the night! (forgive me for assuming everyone is a decleor fan)
There may well be some scientific explanation regarding bodily functions...but thats all my brain can come up with im afraid!! |

I think there are different camps with different beliefs. I for one will use any skincare cream at night as long as it doesn't have SPF in it. If you look at the Dr Hauschka line, they believe that you shouldn't use a night cream AT ALL and that you should just let your skin breathe. I think the rest of the skincare brands (ok, this is a bit of a generalisation ) are in the "night creams have to be richer than day creams" camp.

I think you all are on to something here. As for me, I just use the same moisturizer at night as during the day. I just always make sure that if I'm going to be out in the sun, I use a sunblock. But I do use a heavier moisturizer in the winter than I do in the summertime. But I don't really delineate between day and night. But yes, as far as the industry goes, night creme means greasy & heavy, and day creme means light enough to wear under makeup.

Yep, and just to clarify. While I would use day creams (with no SPF) at night, this does not mean that I would use night creams during the day. Because, as you and Farouk pointed out, night creams and Decleor balms are too heavy to use during the day.

It seems that day cream always have spf15 you don't really need a sunscreen at night, i've heard and read that night creams tend to me thicker and different texture so, your make doesn't really go on smooth. |

For me day is to put on more things like spf sunscreen, oil-control stuff. At night is for treatments like masks whatever type for 2-3times per week. In fact, i use the same moisturizer for day and night. Still fine hahaha... |

I normally use the same creams day and night. But I sometimes use the Decleor Angelique Night Balm, which I wouldn't consider using at daytime. At the present, I am using the Dermalogica Multivitamin mask at night, it makes small wonders in calming my irritated skin. |

I have products for night and day and they are basically the same. I can send free samples to anyone who would like them. Send me an email to llisajj@bellsouth.net and your skin-type and your address and that way you can save money before purchasing a product that is not good for your skin.
Thanks |
