To be fair, Priscilla Presley was not injected with an FDA-approved facial filler, nor even by a licensed American M.D.
She and a few other Hollywood Wives types were scammed by an Argentinian creep who gained their trust (ladies, don't do "injection parties" at private homes, let alone with some charming foreigner who's credentials you don't vet) claiming he had wonder drugs he'd smuggled into the U.S. Turns out he injected industrial, low-grade silicone, similar to what's used to lubricate auto parts.

I think I'd be too scared to get permanent fillers.
Lucyluc, how is it now? Are you still happy with the Artefill? |

I had artefill and was scheduled for a booster - in case - but didn't need it as I started doing facial exercises with a vengeance. I've even lessened my need for botox considerably. |

Does artefill feel soft like normal tissue? Are you constantly aware that something is there? |

I was surprised I have had restylane and radiesse in my nasal folds before....I bruised with radiesse and it hurt like hell, they both didnt last either but so far my artefill is holding up...going on a yr and a half which is good for me since restylane only lasted me a month and botox only lasts me 6 weeks. Also, it didnt really hurt much and I didnt bruise at all I even worked the same day!I think the company is having $$$ problems and might be going bankrupt...I know my doc bought up a whole lot of vials just to make sure he had some. The price has gone up I pd 995 for first vial and 950 for the scond plus I got a 150 amex gift cert from the artefill company. Now the price is 1195 although that is still cheap compared to other docs. |

I have also read that cosmetic surgeons are veering away from permanent fillers. This is because as we age our faces evolve - nothing stays the same. So that a permanent filler that might have been ok when you were 30 might look terrible by the time you're 40. I would also suggest that 24 is far too young to be considering a permanent filler. Have a look at the new generation of thicker fillers that are supposed to last longer.

Do you know which filler lasts the longest that is not permanent? |

Apparently Artefill is no longer available - read this:
http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Long-Lasting-Facial-Injectable-Filler-is-No-Longer-Available&id=1785753
Longer lasting fillers include Radiesse and Juvederm. But basically, there are new fillers on the market all the time - some are thicker and are used for facial wasting and cheek augmentation. I had my cheeks done recently with a new type of Juvederm that contained an anesthetic so that I didn't have to have a needle beforehand. There's also a thicker type of Restylane available now.
It would be best to talk to a cosmetic surgeon to find out which filler is the best for the area you want to treat. Also remember that eveyone is different and there is no real guarantee that the filler will last the length of time they quote. Some people seem to gobble up their filler quicker than others! |

Thanks a lot for all the information! I will probably go for a consultation soon and see what my options are. |

Lucyluc Keliu has a good point. People I know who have had botox over time, I swear it changes the texture of the skin. Their face looks like a death mask. This sounds scary to me, you have plastic beads in your face? I had a big problem with scars and can tell you that I have had amazing results just by using the NaturDerm products. They have some b&a of people with some severe lines that have had really good results on greatnewskin . There is one of a man with a forehead scar http://www.greatnewskin.com/pages/products/Trans-sys.html It made a difference in my scars when I added the non botox Naturdermx. If you are happy with the results that is what is important! |

I was actually only referring to permanent facial fillers. Temporary fillers and Botox are another matter entirely. Temporary fillers are either collagen or hyaluronic acid based, both of these substances are found naturally in the body. I actually think that having temporary fillers can stimulate collagen growth because new collagen can bind itself to the fillers.
Botox is not a filler at all, it's a muscle relaxant - but you are right, if you have too much Botox, your skin can take on a wax like appearance. But like everything, Botox in moderation is fine IMO. |

I was researching fillers and was very tempted by Artifill too, but first of all I hear everywhere that it is not distributed anymore and even though some doctors may have it, I do not get why the company is stopping the further production. I don't know where you can get it in Canada. Secondly, I read that this "permanent" filler can migrate under the skin from original place to a bit off the spot where it is not needed and can feel and look like a lump under the skin.
Have anyone really experienced this?
Well, just to make it straight, it is not a permanent filler, the reports say it lasts up to 10 years in some cases (it was first used in Europe and sufficient time passed by to conclude about the terms of it).
Also, about the time all the fillers last, it depends on the individual metabolism, so the times given by
I've used Juverderm. The ads say it should last up to a year. I don't think it will last that long for me. I love the result, I used it for the lips. My nurse used the numbing gel on the skin, and even though I could feel stinging, it is survivable. I wanted to avoid anesthetic in needle because the swelling and bruising is from the poking the spot too much. So I had no bruising at all (done it 2x). During the first day had some mild swelling and tenderness and could feel something tough under the skin, but couple of days after, the feel of the lips is like my natural skin (however I did want a natural look so injected it conservatively). |

artefill has been safely used in europe for over 10 yrs before being approved in the US.It was called artecol in europe. The company is based here in SD and has had financial problems which lead to a possible bankruptcy. My dr. bought up a lot of vials though....he has been using it a lot and so far has not had any adverse reactions on any patients.I would not have gotten it except I knew it had already been used for 10 yrs; also I am just not a good candidate for temporary fillers, they usually only lasted 30 days....not at all feasible financially or to keep getting injections and bruising evey month..... |
