Hoping you lovely ladies (and gents) wouldn't mind telling me what caused your dermatitis. Just so everyone who has sensitive skin knows what to stay away from. I know fluorinated toothpaste is one.

I usually get dermatitis when I use the industry soap that is offered in a lot of mall bathrooms. I also get severely chapped and irritated lips when I spend too much time in air conditioned environments.

hi blackmamba,

dermatitis is unpredictable and different for everybody. the hard water in paris gave me a wicked case of dermatitis, so bad that the parisian derm told me that i had acne, although i usually get 1-2 zits per year... i basically threw the differin gel he gave me in the trash and waited it out--it went away in about a week. amazingly, my skin continued to be sensitive for an entire year there, only to go back to smooth, poreless, and healthy as soon as i moved back to chicago. my previous bout of dermatitis consisted of tiny red bumps all over my cheeks, like a beard, and orange-peel textured skin. it just had to run its course, but aspirin yogurt aloe masks REALLY helped. once i got over that, i used mineral water spritzes to wash my face and refrained from placing my face in the direct stream of the water and the reaction never came back...
perioral dermatitis is completely different. a lot more tenacious and i think caused by using products that do not agree with one's skin. mine was caused by using castor oil for OCM (oil cleansing method). unfortunately, i know this because a friend was visiting me while i got into the whole OCM thing and her case of perioral dermatitis is MUCH worse than mine, dating back to the same week, in the same place...
antibiotics take care of the perioral dermatitis.
of course, it is most important to identify the triggers for these kinds of reactions and keep them at bay. for me, i realize that as much fun as it is to try new products and methods, my skin looks and feels best when i stick with my basic routine, most of which involves daily cleansing and moisturizing with osea products.

i do hope that helps!

Thanks avalange! It does help! GREAT NEWS though!!! I've pinpointed what caused my dermatitis!!! I've been saying over and over again that it was the rosehip oil I used for over a year!! I just found out that rosehip oil has one of the highest concentrations of vit c of any product!! My skin is highly sensitive to large quantities of vit c. That's why I never use vit c serum!!! There's an interesting topic post here on EDS about users who can't handle vit c. Almost all of them said they had the same tiny red bumps!! Thanks all for your help!

i'm so glad both of us have pinpointed our 'triggers.'
rosehip oil is actually one of the botanical oils that is the least tolerated by skin. it's a wonderfully reparative oil, but it should only be used in blends and in low concentrations.
