Hi all - just quickly wanted to introduce myself: I'm a 33-year old woman, an absolute skincare junkie and a marketers' dream - I'll try it all! I always had very good and clear skin until I moved away from Scandinavia where I come from. I have also done no good to my skin by sunbathing - I have some serious pigmentation problems on my forehead & cheeks now (had I only listened to my mum!!!). Apart from that, my skin is quite OK I think, I don't break out or anything. At the moment I use a combination of Dr Hauschka, Valmont & La Prairie on my skin.
Thanks to you all Obagi-fans, I purchased my first Nuderm-kit from EDS yesterday! I decided to try this as I've just finished a series of microdermabrasion on my face which made no difference at all. I've also tried all sorts of bleaching, creams, exfoliation etc to no avail. I am very excited and cannot wait to start the program, I hope this will help reduce the pigmentation. I will keep you posted on my progress -I just hope I'll be brave enough to post pics! |

Hello Estelle and welcome!
Good luck with Obagi. As I'm sure you've read here it has been a miracle-worker for many. I just started Obagi myself about a week and a half ago myself. I had a lot of redness at first but the last few days my skin has calmed down some. I do have lots of peeling around the mouth area and a little on my forehead but overall I don't look as terrible as I feared I would.
Please keep us updated on how everything is going. |

I got the Obagi Nu-derm skin transformation starter set for Normal/Dry/Sensitive skin. Oh yes and I also got Revitalash, I think it was a bit of an impulse buy but thought that at least I can bat my long lashes at people to keep the attention away from my peeling skin |

I just received my package yesterday-exciting!
A couple of questions to Obagi-pros: I have a huge New Year's party to attend and of course want to try and look my best..should I wait until after NYE before starting with the program?
Also, I go to the sauna quite a lot - is this allowed with Nuderm?
Thanks in advance! |

I ordered my kit from EDS also and am waiting to get it. How long did it take for you to get yours? What eye cream are you using? I have the new day gel and night cream from Obagi, but am really not crazy about it.

I am three weeks into Obagi now which is about where you will be at New Year's. My redness and peeling has mostly calmed down to the point that I think with makeup I would look okay. My skin is pretty oily/resistant though and I did read where some people who did Obagi had redness and peeling for a lot longer. Some days seem worse than others for me, not sure why. I think you could cut back for a few days before your party if you wanted to let your skin rest some and look better.
I started a week before Thanksgiving and thought the same thing - the holidays are coming up, maybe I should wait until after the first of the year to start. But waiting until January to start makes the 18 week course carry over into the spring months when the sun starts getting stronger and I wanted to be done by then so my skin wouldn't be as vulnerable to further damage.
I'm not sure about your sauna question, I'll have to let somebody else help you out there. |

I did not have much flakes when I started using Obagi. I could put make up every day.
My friend started using it about 2 weeks ago, she had small flakes in the first week, and a little now.
I think it's really depending..but if I were you, I could not wait.... |

I just started Obgai today also the NUderm system. I had a microdermabrasion today also so only did steps 1-3 and my face does hurt so we can all keep tabs on each other. Mine is the normal/oily one if that what they call it |

I just finished 18 weeks on Obagi and highly recommend Obagi's "Action" - I couldn't have survived without it. |

Thanks everyone for your replies. So I took the plunge and started the system yesterday. I had such a red face at work today , just after two treatments, that my boss asked me if I was OK and was it perhaps too hot in the office?LOL! I did not tell about Obagi-he's a man and would not understand
Last night when I did the process for the first time I got little red bumps (hives-like) on my cheeks and forehead. This morning they were gone but my face was noticeably plumper and I looked a bit flushed. I suppose these are "normal" side-effects?
I continue to use my own mineral makeup-line as usual. I'm very interested to see the outcome, but I have a good feeling about this. I have managed to "mis-place" my camera but will look for it tonight and definitely take pics as I want to see the transformation from the start. Good to share the experience with you all-it's all very interesting! |

Update - my fourth day on Nuderm: Face is a bit reddish and starting to flake mut nothing too dramatic. Slightly itchy eery now and then but if this is the worst it gets then it's not too bad. Most flakiness around my nose. |

Since Thursday I have added the bender w/the retinol 5% every other day and the Vit C 10% every am. So far my face has a pink look to it at night I do feel dry and a few flakes. I have the Obgai "action" lotion but have not used it as yet. Stil not using any makeup I can't use pressed/lose MMU cause of the Bismuth so I do have some JI liquid or any other suggestions would help Lets all stick together. The insructions say any oil free but I would not use drugstore or dept store. I also hve some DR H foundation |

Your reaction is quite similar to mine, when I started using Obagi.
Keep it up, your skin would be better and better!! |

Congrats on taking the Obagi plunge! I finished 18 weeks and I've been on maintenence for about a month now. My skin looks really clear and smooth--not a freckle in sight!
I got through the peelies by backing off a bit whenever I had a reason to look normal (lol) and 18 weeks flew by! |

Thanks for all the lovely comments! They do come in handy especially this morning, my face is flaking more now, on my cheeks as well and I'm SO pink ! Skin looks more wrinkly now because of the dryness.
I don't have any Obagi eye-products, I'm using Valmont around my eyes - good/bad idea?
Thanks all! |

I had an outing I wanted to look nice for Friday night so I skipped the Obagi Thursday evening and Friday morning. My redness and peeling had already calmed down a lot but I wanted to be extra sure I wasn't going to look strange. I resumed Obagi Friday night after I got home. By yesterday (Sunday) afternoon my skin started peeling heavily again around the mouth area like when I first started. I don't think I'll be laying off the Obagi anymore until I'm done.
I don't have much advice on the makeup questions since I don't wear it much anyway. In the early days of Obagi when I was most red I would use a silicone-based primer and follow with a powder foundation (Philosphy's The Present and MAC Studio Fix respectively) and this would cover a lot of the redness. I only did this for a few days though because I felt like both of those products were probably suffocating my skin and I didn't want to inhibit the Obagi process.
Good luck to everyone and let's keep each other updated. By the way, what strength Retin-A is everybody using? |

I am on my forth day of Nu Derm and am loving it so far:) My face pink and I am peeling, but not too bad...yet? My face feels pretty dry in the morning, but I hve noticed that the sunfader is making me super oily. My skin feels pretty dry until I apply sunfader then it turned in to a oily mess. The peeling goes away, but I am so oily. Anyone else have this problem? Also can I use the Obagi sunscreen on top of the sunfader since sunfader is only SPF 15? Thanks!

Hmmm Faline..did you have any problems with oiliness to start with? Sounds a bit strange that your face turns into oily mess. Only thing what comes to mind is that your skin is trying to over-produce oil to compensate for the dryness.
According to the instructions you can use the sunscreen on top of the sunfader - I do this.
I have an important meeting tomorrow and am dreading it a bit as I know I'll look a right flake LOL. At least I can always blame it on the central heating now that it's cold! |

Thanks for the reply. I am not sure what it is, but my face is fine until I apply the sunfader. The sunfader just seems really oily to me. I hope it gets better. I'm not sure if I would rather be oily or flakey....haha what a choice.

FalinRN--
A lot of people have trouble with Sunfader(burning or greasiness.) I didn't use it at all and had great results with Obagi. |

Beeb,
Thanks so much for the reply. I have applied everything except the sunfader so far today and my face feels pretty good...not oily and not too dry. Hmm, decisions decisions..
