I have light to medium skin, with a neutral tone, light amberish eyes with chameleon hair. In some lights it looks light brown, and in some lights it looks medium auburn brown and in photos it looks dark brown w/streaks of carmel, copper, blond where the flash hits it. My hair has not been coloured and my eyebrows are a dark brown.
I currently wear bronzy, coppery, nude type colors with a shimmer to them but I'm feeling the need for something else. My problem is, i'm afraid of the other colors, I dread looking like a clown and I can't stand pinks and purples which I 've been advised before might look nice.
Should i be looking more matte nude colours? If so, can some brands be recommended? I'm 38 so I can't do any of the candy colours but would prefer to stay with some really nice but also sophisticated and polished colours suitable to my age.
thanks for your help |

Hi rosyface. i just had to respond to your post because i've recently gotten hooked on matte shadows. they are so elegant looking and blend wonderfully. Bobbi Brown i think has one of the best selections. these are almost creamy in texture and have great staying power. i share your trepidation for color, so i usually put on my neutral palette and then do a light wash of either blue or green over that. it's very subtle, but a good way to branch out. |

Hi Rosyface,
Dont be afraid of colour - just balance out the rest of your face so you avoid the clown effect if you add more colour to your eyes.
Rich "jewel" colours will never date or age you! Think rubies, emeralds, sapphires. If you really can't part with your neutral tones why not try a fine line of coloured eyeliner. I have become really attached to urban decay for this. You just do need to play the lips down a bit and well I think its the coloured blusher which gives a face the clown look (well at least on me its a no no)

The body shop has a few palettes out for the holidays that look very nice, different but nice neutral colors, most are metallic though- but I was impressed with the shades. |

rosyface,
I'd like to recommend to mmu brands whose eyeshadows have great staying power and who have both a lovely i.e. huge range of not-quite-nude but not insane quite insane colours.
www.pureluxe.com
www.theshespace.com
PureLuxe has some need chameleon colours taht might really work with your hair. And theshespace has some great seasonal colours that might expande your current palette.
I'm also getting back into mattes, which are terrific too. |

BE has some nice eyeshadows. You can pair a color with a neutral. A color that comes to mind is Heart (coppery purple), which I wear with Nude Beach. A couple other shades Id recommend are Au Natural (peach with a lavendar cast) and Skinny Dip (white with a pink cast). Somebody also mentioned colored eyeliners which are a good idea. Navy or purple are great for a change. Iwould suggest Clinique quickliner for eyes. It's a smooth formula with a built in smudger on the end. |
