Have any of you used Professional Solutions 7.5% Glycolic Acid wash? It's a toner-like exfoliating liquid. The instructions say to leave it on for 2-3 minutes and then longer as your skin can tolerate it.
Everytime I have used this, my skin burns like fire. I've left it on anywhere from 30 seconds to one minute, then rinsed with water as directed. The burning will last all evening, and by the next morning, my skin is dry and flaky. It usually takes about 4-5 days for the surface of my skin to completely flake off and go back to normal.
I'm wondering if this is a normal reaction to this product?? My skin isn't ultra sensitive. I use a combo AHA (lactic acid)/BHA product every day with no dryness or other problems. I don't use retinoids or anything I would need to lay off of before using something like this. I don't use it on the same day as the AHA/BHA combo.
I'm wondering if this glycolic solution is too strong for me, or maybe glycolic just doesn't agree with my skin. I know people use glycolic for peels at 30 and 40%, so it seems strange to me that my skin wouldn't be able to tolerate even a 7.5% product.
Any thoughts or similar experiences with this product? |

persephone, I've used glycolic acid up to 30% and never experienced any kind of peeling or flaking. After the flakies go away, how does your skin look?
it's possible that glycolic acid isn't right for you but I'll be interested in seeing what some more knowledgable forum members have to say about this topic. |

Thanks for your response, Athena! To answer your question, I guess my skin just slowly looks more and more normal after the flakies go away. But by the time they're gone, I can't say that I notice any positive difference.
Hearing that others use such relatively higher percentages of glycolic makes me think maybe I got a bad batch of it or something... |
